One of the spaces will be taken up in 2018 by a juice chain from Europe (Joe & the Juice). I like how the ground floor of that building turned out

I don't know why this is so confusing... each building has its own lobby for pedestrians and dropoffs. If the parking garage is a shared facility, then the elevators and stairwells will have keycard access.

The surface landscaping elements are a privately-owned public space and open to all, at least during operating hours and outside of special events.

It's annoying that the developers did not provide a setback along State or an arcade. Most of the new buildings along that stretch have agreed to do this, given the high pedestrian volumes on State and the pitifully narrow sidewalks.

It's a narrow space for a tower already.

What's actually needed is a widening of the sidewalks on State. I know the "it's too much traffic!" crowd will hate it, but the pedestrian experience should be prioritized.

It would've been smart of the city to mandate this a decade ago for State as well as all the other sidewalks in River North. With the early 00s boom as well as the current cycle, we'd have a bit more breathing room there.

The easiest way to now rectify the situation is remove the left turn lanes/center lane along N State, and widen the sidewalks by about 3 ft on each side of the street. You would still have 2 lanes of traffic in each direction. Removal of the left turn lanes might obviously cause some backups, but oh well. This is downtown Chicago, not exurban Indianapolis. Priority should not be given to ease of getting around by car.

Or hell, put no left turn signs on all cross streets with State between the river and Chicago. With the possible exception of Ontario, where the left lane turns to a left turn only.

LOL. I was thinking KG might refer to Ken Griffin but I've never heard him called that before

I mean, it's not totally out of the question considering Kevin Garnett played his senior year of high school at Farragut Academy in Little Village and won Mr. Basketball for Illinois in 1995.

Ah I see, what do you know, that's where I keep my moderately priced pieces of art as well

Right now though they have a gigantic 3 story vinyl Christmas tree plastered on the west facing windows of this unit, its quite the sight at night because its backlit by the lights inside, i'll try to take a picture but not sure how well it will turn out

The city did establish a new setback line along the west side of State (from the river to Chicago Ave. IIRC) in the mid 1980s. So eventually the opportunity will be there for a reconfiguration of the cross-section.

It's a tear down and new McDonald's. Kind of looks like an Apple store. No new residential tower.

Since we're on the topic of McDonalds, yesterday a permit was issued for one to take up the ground floor of their new HQ. Not highrise news, but it felt pertinent enough to mention

^ the whole ground floor? Isn't that quite a large building?

With any luck they'll make it a new flagship, paving the way to eventually get rid of the Hard Rock McDonald's.

I figured there was also an element of which materials pass along vibrations most efficiently (the more efficient, the worse of an insulator). Sort of like how heat insulation relies on materials that are poor conductors of heat. Neither of those things necessarily point to the densest materials.

Sorry. That place is miserable. They're everywhere here.

I would assume it would only be for a small portion of the ground floor. My guess would be on a corner, perhaps on Randolph. It is Restaurant Row after all, and I suppose for all intents and purposes... McDonald's is a "restaurant", right? lol

Yup, it's going to be on the Randolph side. I wonder if this McDonald's will be held to a much higher standard in order to fit into the "Restaurant Row" brand.
