To reinforce my theory pay close attention to the space up at the top left where the old vents used to be and compare to this video around 6:40 when it was a bus tunnel. I think the wall is closer in now https://youtu.be/k_RCuCZemOw
You are right. There is now a door at the end of the path beneath the Queensway. One theory I have on why it has been walled off is that maybe the interior walkway now ramps up so it ends up at the non fare-paid concourse level whereas before it would have led to track level We'll find out next year. Seems like it's going to be a pretty scary walkway — when a narrow enclosed corridor is curved, it's hard to see a few metres ahead or behind if someone is following or stalking you.

Actually it might explain why they seem to be turning the old vent shaft into an entrance. Either you continue down the path into the fare paid area or you exit via the old vent shaft

McGuinty was lukewarm at best towards LRT in Ottawa. The entire McGuinty years were almost a total wash when it came to transit investment in Ottawa or anywhere else in the province - I forget its name - that Ottawa is apparently contained within.

If you are referring to Anterio, we are in Posterio.

I understand the need to separate bike/pedestrian traffic from the rapid transit line, but it seems to me they could have left a few window-type openings along the MUP tunnel.

Honestly I don't get the swirly looping pathway that goes underneath the station to the canal... it seems like the least efficient way to lay out that path..even worse than it was before (looping bike path with central staircase)..

I've been told that originally the ramp design is where it is to avoid several mature trees, but then the contractors just bulldozed all the trees so now it doesn't really make any sense.

The people who design transit, don't take transit.

The people who design pedestrian facilities, don't pedester.

This series is extendable.

And the Corktown Footbridge over the Rideau Canal would be more useful if it also went over the Colonel By Drive and Nicholas Street, instead of forcing the users on a zig-zag path to an underground tunnel.

I think there will be a new staircase built just south of the ramp for pedestrians.

I suspect the new ramp has a lot to do with accessibility standards and they probably wanted to remove the conflict points between the ramp and the staircase.

The people who design bike lanes don't cycle.

The big exception is:

The people who design roads, drive.

In the rendering there are these broad steps, I'm guessing they are beside (to the southeast of) the loopy ramp? The old tunnel was also the main access to the eastbound Transitway platform but with a new separate entrance they must be assuming that most of the pedestrian traffic will shift over. I wonder if there are provisions for eventually extending that into a second tunnel under Nicholas.

McGuinty talked big but didn't fund much. Wynne actually put money where her mouth is on transit infrastructure, and now that Brown has pledged to keep all of her promised transit projects, things might actually get done. (No brainer for him. He gets to cut the ribbon and get all the credit even though Wynne did all the funding and planning work.. much like how Watson gets everyone's credit for the Confederation Line when it was O'Brien's project!).

You can see the base of the staircase being formed just above the bottom of the ramp.

He didn't even talk big. He was always skeptical of LRT investment in Ottawa, and put an absolute pittance on the table. McGuinty's record on transit is lousy, and I don't think I've ever been so glad to see a premiership come to an end.

I know the Mike Harris era was much better for transit in Ontario. Right??????

It seems like work is beginning on extending the Trillium Line track into the new platform at Bayview.

Maybe the new platform will open soon? It'd be nice to not have to walk all the way around the LRT station to catch an eastbound bus.

I've walked this ramp a few times and it definitely feels unnecessarily long, at least from a pedestrian's perspective.

I think there should be a second staircase on the north side, connecting the tunnel entrance with the top of the ramp. There's certainly room. And while we're at it, maybe a little glass kiosk with a tiny takeaway coffee place in that wasted space inside the S-curve at the top of the ramp.
