The site plan application was updated and says this one is seven stories. But the site plan has a status that I haven't seen yet: "Rejection Letter Sent". Sounds like a response to an offer for a second date.

The paint on the Hilton is about 1/3 done. Still a long way to go. It will be verrrry bright when all's said and done.

Luckily, included as part of the capital expenditures for the paint is a round of deep cleaning for the stone panels on the exterior. Hopefully all of those decade-old water stains will come up . . . .

The skybridge is also coming along pretty steadily. Fabrication should be finished after Christmas, and it will be lifted into place in late January. However, there's a lot of additional construction needed after that time -- and construction will halt periodically based on occupancy both at the Hilton and at ACC. At this point the opening date is sometime mid May.

It's cool to see the skybridge being constructed in the lot to the SE if anyone is walking nearby!

I thought the seven story Villas on Nueces was going to be built in from of the old Villas on Nueces. But the old three story building will be demolished.

It appears that after a couple years of struggling with the city and neighborhood, the proposed Guesthouse Hotel on S. Crongress (south of the HEB where the abandoned Asian restaurant is located) is ready to go. There was a permit filing today for its construction that indicated that the site plan was approved. Anything to extend the SoCo vibe south is great news by me. Here's a re-post of the rendering:

Yeah it can be difficult to keep track of everything. A lot of developments in West Campus begin construction without an official announcement.

It was reported on here a year or so ago that HEB bought the strip mall on the NE corner of Oltorf and S. Congress ( the current HEB being on the SW corner) and will build a new store there. I asked folks at the Oltorf HEB about it. They confirmed, but didn't know time line.
So.... answer is... the old store will go away.
Have never seen any other plans.

EXCLUSIVE: Group plans to replace Expo Center with arena, stadium

Quote:
A small local group with a big vision and political backing has unveiled plans for a wide-ranging project called the East Austin District, highlighted by a large arena and a multi-purpose stadium.

Austin Sports & Entertainment, co-founded by former University of Texas swimming star Sean Foley and New England sports entrepreneur Andrew Nestor, partnered with Rodeo Austin, intends to work with the city and county to replace the Travis County Expo Center with a 15,000-seat arena adjacent to a 40,000-seat open-air facility.

“The natural growth of the city is east, but that area has been neglected far too long,” Foley told the American-Statesman. “Right now, it might be several miles from downtown; tomorrow, it won’t be.”

The complex, designed to include office space, a convention area, medical facilities, retail and eight courtyards, could house a wide variety of sports events, concerts, trade shows and festivals.

Austin City Council member Ora Houston, whose District 1 includes the Expo Center, said she is fully on board.

“When I saw the visual picture of what they wanted, I was so excited,” she said. “The opportunities for sports, music, area youth, health entities could be a generational kind of thing. This would re-purpose, renew and refresh an area that needs it.”

Houston said the venues could fill the void for major concerts after the Erwin Center is torn down. University of Texas officials are contemplating building a smaller arena.

“When that goes away, we won’t have any large indoor venue,” she said. “Circuit of the Americas is huge, but it’s outdoors.”

Houston also wants Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew SC, exploring a move to Austin, to be the stadium’s major tenant.

Good find on those pics . . . I like it, too.

I don't think it's the best place for the Crew -- especially if the other option is Butler Shores -- but really like the idea that it helps push development on the East Side.

Decker Lane is going to suck, though. There's only one way in and out of that place, and Decker Lane is it. They have made improvements by widening the bridge on FM 973, but there's going to be a line of cars several miles long waiting to get in.

The building design is neat, but I wonder if they're planning to replace all of the buildings onsite and combine their uses into this building. We go to the Expo Center every year for a dog show. I had been hearing that they were planning on moving the show to Dripping Springs. They already had one show at that location a couple of months ago and it sucked. It was hot in the building and the accessibility was pathetic. I'm sure it couldn't have been ADA compliant either. I also hope they take advantage of the skyline view from the property because it's one of the best ones in the city. You can see the whole city from up there.

Lol..helps push development on the east side? What help is needed? That has to be one of the hottest redevelopment areas in the country.

Downtown sports arenas are preferable in every way possible. This is a cool venue and will probably be the spot that the crew lands, but Butler Shores would have been better for the city.

Lady Bird Johnson would be rolling in her grave if a stadium were to be built next to the river. the traffic would be a nightmare
