LB has very poor reactions and never can 'see' the puck.

LB definitely has some issues to resolve, but the whole team still has some learning to do as well. They did not know how to handle the Flames as they stepped it up in the third. The whole period was in the Oilers zone, they can't let that happen. The only good thing about the game was that Oilers let off in the third with a huge cushion to save them. As oppose to the last two months where they've been letting off in the first period at puck drop and then play catch up all game.

So does the team come back with LB against Philly on Wednesday, or does PC look for a bit of short-term help with a trade for another backup?
I don't know if Todd really wants to start Ellis, but how does he trust LB at this point?

Come back Talbs!

I missed watching the game. Did Todd call a time out during that 3rd period barrage? He should have done so at the 6-4 goal.

^He had an AWFUL team in from of him, LB has a mediocre D in front of him. Difference is significant.

Yes we come back with LB tonight, play him to let him write his ticket.

After watching tonight’s Oilers debacle I keep wondering if there is a problem in the dressing room either between players or the coaching staff and players?

Something is seriously wrong here when you have this much talent and this degree of disfunctionality

These guys were finally gelling before the Christmas break, but now 3 losses since then.

i'm not sure they were gelling or if they had a bit of a streak getting some starters back - including their starting goaltender - and then settled back down into the team norm.

i don't think there's enough there to gell - it's the team itself from ownership through management that still believes this team - year after year after year - is the heir to the glory years teams of the 80's simply by donning the sweater (ignoring the constant screwing around with the sweaters and colours year after year in order to make a few more bucks) and without having to earn that legacy each and every night.

when it's handed to them instead of their having to earn it, that legacy has no value. as much as i enjoyed last season's run, i'm afraid it will be the next once in a decade exception that proves the rule. just as the exception that proved the rule last decade was the 2006 team that lucked it's way to the cup finals - a season that took the team a decade to start to recover from because there was a belief they actually deserved to be there even though they didn't have to work to get there and didn't have the talent or the work ethic to get back there. last year's team had the talent but still had to rely on a goaltender's season long streak to get them as far as they did. and they've clearly demonstrated this year that they still don't have a strong enough work ethic from the first period drop of the puck to the end of the game to be considered torchbearers of that 80's legacy. no-one associated with those teams from ownership to management to the players themselves would have put up with how this team continues to play the game.

i hope they turn it around because i believe there is enough talent in the room but sometimes i think we celebrate the talent too much and the media seems willing too willing to do the same thing as management and fans. unfortunately, out of that trifecta, there's only one group - the fans - who are expected to continue to pay for the privilege of. the more expensive that becomes, the more i wonder how long it will last... how many in attendance last night - once again - looked at their ticket stubs and wondered else they could have done and enjoyed that much more for that much money.

Todd McLellan is looking whiter and more gaunt every day. Oh the life of a losing coach. Got to feel for him this season. What a train wreck.

He hasn't shown enough 'coaching' to make me want to pity him. Though he can only work with the pieces he has been given, he shows way too much dedication to 'veterans', and a lack of influence over Woodcroft in relation to a ridiculously bad home penalty kill, and overly predictable power play.

Edmonton to continue FIFA 2026 bid process
January 23, 2018

Edmonton has committed to continue in the hunt for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Council decided today to support Edmonton continuing as a candidate host city for the United Bid, a unique tri-country bid that brings together Canada, USA and Mexico.

“Being part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Edmonton and we now need the provincial and federal governments to commit to the bid,” said Mayor Don Iveson. “A bid that unites three countries has never been tried at this level of international sport and it’s exciting for Edmonton to be part of that effort.”

The United Bid brings together North America in a unique partnership that will redefine the way global events can be held and focuses on building the game - not stadiums. The City will continue to work with Canada Soccer, the other Canadian candidate host cities, and provincial and federal governments, to further advance the bid. Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal are the other Canadian cities in the bid that currently features 31 cities.

The FIFA World Cup offers considerable legacy opportunities for Edmonton including $170 million (U.S.) in economic activity, an enhanced international reputation and significant community benefits that will continue to be developed as the city moves through the bid process, ensuring that benefits to Edmonton are maximized.

Based on the preliminary information provided by Canada Soccer, the estimated cost for a host city ranges between $35 million to $55 million, which includes a month-long fan festival, transportation and traffic management, marketing and communications, and staff to liaise with FIFA. Limited security costs would also be included, however, the four Canadian cities are seeking support from the federal government for the bulk of security.

The City of Edmonton will sign and submit the necessary hosting documents, conditional on federal and provincial support being secured, prior to the United Bid Committee (UBC) submitting its bid to FIFA on March 16, 2018. In June, FIFA Congress will decide if the UBC is successful. Morocco is the other lone competitor for the World Cup.

rumour has it that partly as a result of last nights' 5-0 game (again! ) tier 1 fans at the oilers' hosted breakfast later this week will be offered seat upgrades...

the new seats apparently swivel 180 degrees and come with earphones so you don't have to watch the game and you don't even have to listen to it either.

Chiarelli should have been out of a job the second he made the Hall for Larsson trade. He's gutted this team and left them in a position where they will be in cap hell without someone smart coming in and getting creative to fix the problem. And the problem IS NOT McDavid's contract, it's Lucic, it's Russell at 4x4 with a NMC, it's the panicked over-payment of Draisaitl. He needs to be let go immediately and not be given an opportunity to cause more damage than what he's already done. He was gifted the best job in hockey and has made a complete mess of things. The team would be in a SIGNIFICANTLY better position had they just drafted McDavid and literally not done anything else. At least they'd still have valuable assets to use. Instead the cupboards are bare and there is no money left to spend after this season. What an absolutely disgraceful job he's done.

Gee, was thinking of seeing a game when I was next in town but you all have me double-guessing. On the plus side, maybe resale tickets can be found at a bargain?

I've all but washed my hands of hockey this season with the Oilers tank job and an Olympic team of also-rans.
