Nice picture, and it was like I said in a previous post, from the north the podium grilles actually hide the parking. When looking at it from the south, that's where it looks iffy. Overall, not bad, but I want to see the metal studs finishes on the edges before judging it further.

If the whole thing lights up like a Christmas tree. i'll love it. People may hate the idea of a "time square" type area in LA but I feel this with ocean wide will attract a lot of people downtown. Too bad the original Luxe site plan was changed.

Seems like Luxe and Apex both watered down the LED/signage componet.

With Onni and Oceanwide going up across the street, we'll be able to rename this intersection "Parking Podium Square" or "Podium Alley". The signage could be pretty sweet. A crest with a line art person choking on auto fumes seems appropriate.

The podiums are continuing a thread in south park that matches the height and scale of LA Live. This area will actually look congruent once all new buildings are complete and the new scale is set. The architects have matched the designed for Circa and Oceanwide’s podiums to match the curvy likes and look of staples, and in person it makes sense looking at it all in context. Like it or not, this is the reality of buildings in 2017 and it’s not just our city.

Most certainly!

I recall that area not all too long ago when it was very dark at night, lifeless & unattractive both during the day & evening....nothing but parking lots & rundown bldgs.

for the convention ctr to have been in the middle of that was the worst selling card possible for a city trying to lure conventioneers, travelers & ppl in general.

even today, when I see all the improvements recently made or now being made, I notice the gaps where things like the Olympia proj are supposed to go up....

I notice a large xmas tree has been placed on the lawn filled block of Grand Ave park across from city hall. I wonder if that will replace the large tree that traditionally has sat directly in front of the west side of city hall itself?

I also wonder how common or uncommon are the amenities of things like rooftop pools in other cities, esp the ones known for highrise living?

I'd say dtla is getting better & better.....

as for the 101 fwy from hollywood leading towards dt....parts of that hwy today were full of litter & plenty of dead landscaping. very bad show, as they'd say in the entertainment industry.

caltrans isn't helping the city's image. boo!

I can’t wait to visit DTLA again

every time I go it’s always so different. Since i live in San Diego.

We definitely have similar buildings going up at the moment. Podiums and rooftop pools, etc. Los Angeles’ just tend to be more on the flashy, fabulous and sophisticated-looking side imo while here it’s more like... laid back, retirement, family-looking side lol

Agree that a lot of the new developments in DTLA are flashier. This likely is to do with luring a younger demographic to DTLA. In DTSD a lot of projects have been developed by Canadian companies, which have a modern, but more subdued look. Also, DTSD has projects which cater to various lifestyles (family, urbanite, retiree, SRO/low income, etc.)

^^^ I just hope it gets done. It was originally supposed to break ground this year. Seems like early/mid next year sounds doable. Nothing fancy about the towers. Just great infill with an wrap around LED billboard with Circa which i honestly love.

This is yet another very important project for the fig corridor as well as future conventions. Very exciting.

I'd like to see City Lights go up instead of this, its the better design, but maybe both will happen.

Eventually the hotel tax rebate gravy train will end, though.

It was never supposed to break ground this year. The date has always been early 2018.

Other projects to watch are the Shenzen-Hazens W Hotel on Figueroa and the Mitsu-Fudosan 43-story tower at 8th and Fig. Those projects have been in the pipeline for a while, and seem to be the furthest along for potential ground-breaking in 2018. Though I would give Forest City an honorable mention for their 27-story tower on Hope, as they have a fair amount of capital to leverage and experience in navigating development in Los Angeles. That could be one that moves a bit quicker than the others if the financials pencil out for them for a late 2018 start. This is all pure conjecture, but educated guesses, assuming no major shifts in macro-economic trends.
