Not sure about building these on an "island" directly in the flood plain...

there likely wont be any living space on lower level. So nothing to be damaged during flood event. Article also mentions some sort of flood mitigation design elements to the project.

Huge fan of this and hopefully ignites some of the other projects near by.

🞵🞵🞵🞵 no 🞵🞵🞵🞵 this. Philadelphia doesn't need any more of this virtue signalling 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. We already have a huge jewish museum. 🞵🞵🞵🞵 off. It needs a decent garden here not another concrete memorial graveyard. There are a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 ton of genocides that happened, 🞵🞵🞵🞵 the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 off and have some respect for them and make one for them.

Geez I've never seen someone get so angry over a holocaust memorial.

There isn't new, it's been in the works for a while and is already a Holocaust memorial (the first one in the US if I remember correctly). It's just been very underrepresented in the past, this will showcase it better and enliven the space in general (regardless of the monument).

A Jewish museum is different than a Holocaust momentum in the same way that the Shofuso Japanese House is different than a monument to internment camps or civilian victims of nuclear bombings in WW2 or whatever other historical event you associate with an entire people.

I would choose my words more strategically when making a critique like this. Maybe you have some valid concerns but your hot take comes off as something one of those tiki torch welding deplorables would ramble about...

I'm tired of 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 parks being built. Dilworth park, and the Love park are just concrete slabs with a flat fountain and a patch of grass. I wouldn't care if it was actually a garden but it's just another concrete slab whose only redeeming factor is more victim virtue signalling. We just got a statue of a black guy who doesn't even have the respect to stand up respectfully. Our public space is starting to look like a museum of politically correct victim idolization.

We're not showing that we have the capacity to have a world class park where a world class park is supposed to be.

Dilworth Park is a very successful redevelopment. That space is very active and well-used now. Love Park remains to be seen, but I suspect we'll get similar results.

Get out of here with you're "anti-politically correct" 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. These parks and statues "tell it like it is." Not all of us want to ignore our history. If it makes you uncomfortable it's because you haven't personally accepted the fact that past injustices continue today. Artists have always done projects like this drawing inspiration from persecution. It's not victim idolization, it's simply telling our history. You should probably read up on it, seems like you need it.

Lest we forget.

An expletive laden rant doesn't do anything to get one's points across. I think an aesthetics/politics debate is fine. I think the Holocaust Park 2.0 is nothing to write home about, but I'm not going to freak out about it. I'm much more inclined to curse the morbid collapsed building memorial at 22nd and Market. Far worse. Catto's statute isn't the best work of art that I've seen (but I've again seen far worse). As for virtue signaling, there's a bit of that in all monuments. As long as folks don't go trying to rip down what they don't like, it's fine for every age to memorialize what is significant to them. We have a democratic process for that. As for memorializing other genocides (FYI, there's an Armenian genocide memorial next to the Art Museum), I'm all for marking the horrors of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc. From my experience as the member of groups that erected the Irish famine and Scottish emigration memorials, that's not an easy or inexpensive process.

The Rodin museum has a nice garden. But it also has a guy sitting, so that might just piss you off.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the spot in question is already a Holocaust memorial. It's just getting some improvements.

Well OK then. The Holocaust memorial has been there for what, ~50 years? And they have been trying to fix it up for maybe the last dozen? This isn't exactly coming from left field. I remember hearing about this impending renovation before Comcast Center One was even thought up.

Not that I understand why everyone gives so many shits about memorials and statues these days.

Vulgar, but a valid point.

First you're dropping hard J's now you're complaining about other "impure" racial monuments. This ain't Stormfront, you're detracting from your argument by bringing your non-urban development/architectural ideologies/beliefs into this.

Valid concern, although based on the size of this plot, I think it's a bit overblown.

I'm just saying if you want to add social justice in to every park, fine but make the park look good. People live here, this isn't a place to 🞵🞵🞵🞵 your political agendas. No one wants to call home and say they live next to some panels and huge sidewalk.
