I had noticed they where prepping the site Yesterday, and also noticed 2 for lease signs go up in the same strip both look like smaller locations but I think they may find it hard to keep tenants with Demolition looming over the horizon.

With the rumors they may tear down that strip mall, and I thought also the other one where Goji's/Stile used to be (who knows anymore), I think they should consider leaving space on the Sears frontage on Champlain/Main St. for a restaurant. The mall isn't exactly swimming in potential tenants these days so having a restaurant could bring in people and fill some of the void. There's been rumors of a restaurant for a while now but nothing seems to come out of them. Looking at the states for example, The Cheesecake Factory is usually attached to malls and it brings in a huge crowd where the long waits can only benefit the stores.

I think what happends with Champlain Place is that they will have to go back on there no longer wanting a Restaurant in the Mall as when Don Cherries had moved from the mall to 200 Champlain Street. This seem to be there reasoning behind the construction wall going up, and them starting on deviding the old space before they even had tenants in. Now it seems that the old Tommy Hilfiger store could fit a restaurant maybe once the curent tenants move back to the other side of the mall after Christmas. But we will have to see After that.

I think what will hurt the mall the most will be the inpending closure of Sears Some shopping centres there Sears stores either had a smaller footprint, or They had tenants already selected, and where quick into dividing there store to make it easy for new tenants. But not sure Cadillac Fairview has a Tenant, or tenants in place for the Sears, and the old Sears Garage.

Despite both having been deleted turrn out the original poster had actually apoligised it was a weird attempt at Boosting Moncton, and its suronding areas by making it seem as if we had more going on then we did at the time.

I guess they thought it would boost the amount of people wanting to live in Moncton therefore expanding Greater Moncton's Housing construction, and sale of home Pushing Comercial development, and with Moncton, and surounding area having the reputation of being hard working push up the job market as well. So I take it the post was originally posted, and reposted with the original post being put up while NB was seeing citizens leaving for what seemed to be greener pastures, and reposted as Developers seemed stuck as they where building more homes then what was needed at the time.

Personaly I think it's a eird way to go about it since people could check Updatem maps that Usually get updated often enough that people would know that things on the list din't exist.

I'm not sure why you're bringing it up again. The post was discredited at the time, was made a long time ago (at least six months if not longer) and I'm sure everyone has since forgotten about it.

when it comes to CF Champlain there must be a way for Cadilac Fairview can rejuvenate the mall and bring in new stuff in the GMA. I like the fact that Bass Pro Shop is in Moncton but i wish that we could have more regional retailers here rather than drive down to Halifax.

Funny you should talk about The Cheesecake Factory as they are expanding into Canada. It seems they will only have one location for now to test the waters but do seem in a hurry to test, and then follow it with a Canada wide expantion. At this point the only location known it there Toronto location in a shoping centre.

So the Cheesecake Factory opened today at Yorkdale, the mother of all malls! I would not hold my breath, it will never come to Moncton, if they open elsewhere in Canada it will head to Vancouver and Calgary next and that's about it. PF Changs tried coming to Canada and it failed and went bankrupt actually (Canadian division), they only have 2 locations in Canada; Laval and Montreal.
Large US restaurant chains often run into trouble in Canada, Applebees, Chilis, PF Changs, TGIF, Boston Market, Carl's Jr, just to name them; prices, poor selection (compared to the states) and local taste is mostly to blame. Nonetheless I think that the Yorkdale location will do fine, anything that decide to set up there (Yorkdale) is almost always a runaway success $$$!

What we need at Champlain is a good Canadian chain that is new to our market. Are your listening CF?

I wonder if this Canadian (Alberta) chain would consider expanding. I've been to the ones in Edmonton when I lived there, I cannot imagine it being any much different than the Cheesecake Factory, except for the fact its Canadian. They set up shop in smaller locations too.

anyone know what is going on at Sears they had both sides seemingly roped off when we went with workers using what seemed to be laser levels, and a mesuring wheel despite the parking seeming to be full.

This seems to push the Idea maybe CF Champlain has a plan in place for when Sears decamps there location in the mall.

No idea, but if they are busy doing measurements while the patient is still in his death throws, this might be good news regarding a rapid repurposing of the Sears space.

It was reported on another site that JYSK is now closing in Dartmouth Crossing.

I only mention this since there has been speculation in the past here that JYSK might be a good candidate to enter the Moncton market. If they are fleeing Halifax, this probably pours cold water on any chances of further Maritime expansion.

JYSK is sort of an "IKEA-light" store. I presume their doom is due to the entry of IKEA into the Halifax market..........

Could be the opposite though. if IKEA is pushing JYSK out of Halifax, Moncton could be a nice opportunity. It clearly is not a large enough market for its own IKEA.

My thoughts exacly. Anyone hear anything about Sobeys since I know the previous plans where to keep the Regis location open, and close the Champlain one before they purchased Coop (Now COOP IGA) I kno they still own some land Next to Yvone, and where suposed to be building a Sobeys Extra.

I tend to agree with Sandbagger on this one JYSK being a smaller retailer then Ikea might see cities Ikea see as to small, or not as profitable as a location for themselves to expand in.

About 10 years ago I was chatting with some higher-ups from Sobeys Stellarton HQ and they told me that Regis St. was safe because of their very high sales per square foot.
While I still see the same volume of traffic at that store, or more, that I used to see 10 years ago, it's a different world today compared to 10 years ago so who knows?
Still, their Dieppe Boul. store should have been built by now. Have they even started it?
And tonight on the news their top business story is Sobeys combining their five regional operations into one national operation. Hard to guess what the future will bring.

Lots of job losses in Stellarton anyway. Over 100 jobs lost at the HQ alone. That'll be difficult to replace in a small town......

I sometimes wonder if Sobeys wouldn't have been better off as a "big fish" in a smaller pond and stayed as a regional grocer. They could have kept Empire Theatres then too. That sort of business plan seems a whole lot more stable than what's going on now.........
