Right, sorry mixed up the posts and pics. Any idea if it’s actually a true story?

Thanks! I used to walk by this building all the time when living in Vancouver, I was hoping to see an update on it.

Who care is these building aren't highrises? It's literally 100s if not 1000s of units of speculative units. Be interesting to know who actually lives in these.
Again people thinking in either or terms. I said nothing about highrises. 10-15 floors with large floorplates would be a nice change from the ubiquitous 6 storey building. Like the duke on Kingsway or the new projects in Chinatown on Main Street .

And that proposal on the sw corner looks great. Either I have a bad memory and forgot about it or I somehow missed seeing it but look forward to seeing that move forward.

And I still think it's ridiculously stupid and short sighted on how short and low fsr these projects are. And what's with everything being 6 stories, why not 7? And for the people who would answer with "because they can build with wood frame and it's cheaper" makes no sense given that they are all concrete buildings here!
Ever heard of European chic? Vancouver folks think that having 6 storey condos means we are instantly Scandinavian or European progressive. Same with the bike path thinghy. People tend to link tall buildings to property speculation and "big bad businesses". It's shallow mindset like this that produces such cookie-cutter living quarters in prime transit accessible land.

Haha, I did some scouring last night. Apparently the story precedes the late 80's mcmansion on the corner now. As far as origins of the story someone would have to look through old newspaper archives for any murder that may have happened there.

The only pic I could find was an early 80's pic and the corner lot was entirely shrouded in large evergreens.

And there was another story that the ghosts disappeared when Buddhists moved in.

From Vancouver Market.ca:

Main & 6th Ave.

By Port Living.
Interesting retail spaces, including basement, ground and 1st floor (mezzanine).
I suppose they could be restaurants with private rooms.

Quote:
The proposal, entitled “Main Street Arts”, is to permit the development of a 6-storey mixed use building that includes:
◾65 condo units;
◾19 studios, 19 one-bedrooms, 17 two-bedrooms and 10 three-bedrooms;
◾9,614 SF of at-grade retail plus 6,617 SF of below ground retail;
◾A total density of 3.86 FSR;
◾A building height of 74.5 ft;
◾99 parking spaces (including 1 car share space); and
◾2 Class B loading spaces.

The mix is mandatory, I believe: http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/family-room-housing-mix-policy-for-rezoning-projects-2016-07-13.pdf

The top two floors of duke look ridiculous. Spandrel shit show, doesn't fit at all with the building. Will the city please stop making buildings do this! Simply continuing the brick would look so much better

From Changing City Updates:

35 and 43 West 6th Avenue

... the 1901 Coulter House would be used as a restaurant...

I'm glad that they are retaining the house for restaurant use, I think that the area has a lot of potential in adaptive re-use of the old houses to retail. Unfortunately, this doesn't work.
