I like that last Toronto pic where the CN tower just looks like an oversized spire.

Something needs to happen with the foreground if Edmonton really wants to grow up. This is my problem with the Albertans cities, there is little depth to their urbanity. The transition from downtown to suburban or provincial looking backwater happens far too quick.

Yeah that's less than 2 km's from the downtown core. For reference purposes this is 3km's from the dt core in Vancouver.

Edmonton is also half the population of Vancouver, so there is that to consider as well.

Beautiful pictures, guys ! Interesting details of Mississauga. Amazing Halifax aerial. It was also nice to see Griffintown and Edmonton

Gatineau, QC as seen from Rockcliffe Park, Ottawa.

Only 400 people lived in Edmonton in 1891 when the train finally arrived and you are complaining about a lack of urbanity? Keep in mind, Edmonton laughs at Las Vegas when it comes to urbanity, a city that is almost the same size as Vancouver.

Do you have a point in there? I said if it wants to grow up, implying young.

The problem is a lot of the built form is already there so it's going to be tough for it to happen. Might it be a fatal flaw moving forward who knows. Obviously the cities on the eastern part of the continent don't have the same issue but it's not exactly a product of time but of the period they were built in. Will time be enough to save younger cities considering we don't build in the way we use to? Something to ponder atleast.

My point which you seemed to miss is that Edmonton's lack of urbanity are not as severe as it is in Las Vegas and Phoenix. Urbanization in the suburbs will happen around transit stations and malls. And no, Edmonton's urban form will never look like the urban form out east, which can be a good thing depending on how you look at it.

I mean no it's not but those are some extreme examples. Las Vegas is basically an amusement park.

In what way would you need to look at it in order to perceive it as a good thing? As far as I can tell, there's a consensus among urban enthusiasts that pre-automobile build form has a higher quality compared to post automobile built form.
