If all of these projects are completed the SLC skyline will grow considerably in size. Especially if the CCH turns out to be the new tallest building.

It's been all crickets with those two projects for some time now.

This would be a great addition to the skyline if completed.

The good news is it will likely have to same impact on the skyline as the Wells Fargo building. The bad news is it will have the same impact on the street as the Wells Fargo building. That long of a continuous building is rough on street life unless they do a real good job at engaging the street.

Yup, looks pretty nice. Hopefully they find enough demand to add a few more levels of residential. I also hope they can make the “screen” on the south end a little taller to stagger the roof line a little bit more.

On a side note. While I don’t dislike the wells Fargo building, it’s probably my least favorite of the major buildings downtown. It’s just too wide and the pattern on the glass seams to shorten the building visually. The flat top doesn’t help much either. A few more levels would help tremendously. But I’d keep it in the skyline if the argument was either for it or against it.

The large block sizes of Salt lake will only encourage wide bases and widths of buildings so we better get used to it but I’m pretty excited about this Held project

The thing about the Draper Prison site that shows that the Politicos in Utah are clueless is that the site is not even close to moving dirt ready. It's likely 7 years at least away under best case scenario to be able to move dirt for an Amazon campus there. Downtown, The Granary or the Fairpark are the only legit options.

My guess, based on the info we had previous about them not needing to go before planning division for this project (or whichever department you have to argue your case to if you want to build higher than zoning allows... meaning it will not be above 375 feet), as well as the height it looks in the renderings, that it will be 370 feet. Again, just a guess, but the address will likely be 370 S. West Temple, so it seems like they are going for a 370 theme, address and height; 370 Millennium Tower.
I think it's okay; not iconic but not terrible. I'll echo the length, like Wells Fargo Center, being somewhat problematic, but manageable. I mean, it will fit in our skyline with all the long and wide buildings we have; probably mostly due to our huge blocks.

I really believe that the state proposal is a phased one that includes multiple sites. Say what you will about the laughislature and the state power structure but it is basically run by real estate developers and brokerages. They understand project phasing. My rough uneducated guess guess is that the proposal was "Fairpark now, Draper in the near future". Amazon wasn't going to build it all in one fell swoop. Also, Val Hale's language during the interviews talked almost exclusively about downtown's access to the airport and the slopes. The governors office was also clear that they prefer multiple, diffuse, smaller campuses and recommended that much to Amazon. I'm cautiously optimistic about the state proposal.

This is very true Marvland. The legislature is filled with self serving, cowpuck, butternuts who could care less about what's best for the community. Whereas the city is full of ditships who have no clue. It's a loser for sure. I think the only way to hope for change is for the out of state developers to make it happen.

Not sure I am a fan at all of the governors office saying: "Let's scatter Amazon all up and down the Wasatch Front." I think that defeats the idea of SLC truly urbanizing.

Getting ahead of myself. It's unlikely the area even gets the project. We'll soon see.

Even if SLC had the perfect proposal, it is still very unlikely the area even gets the project. Fun to think about, but I believe it was a non starter from the get go.

I think this might be the most reliable and most plugged in article that I’ve come across regarding Amazon’s second headquarters. It has Atlanta as the clear favorite for the location. I have always thought from the time Amazon made the announcement of a second headquarters that Atlanta had the best shot. Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and DC round out the top five. I think this clearly shows that Amazon is looking more east coast. Other cities of interest are Salt Lake City sitting at #14, Toronto at #12, Denver at #8, and Austin at #6. A dark horse that I think is slowly getting more attention is Pittsburgh which sits at #11.

Here is another article, this one is from Fortune as to why Atlanta is the early favorite. Salt Lake City isn’t mentioned or listed as a potential city. I think Delta having its largest hub in Atlanta will also be a main selling point. Delta’s CEO a couple weeks ago finally came out and said that Delta is watching the situation very closely and even though and can’t play favorites (because essentially all the Delta hub cities are all vying for the second headquarters; except Seattle of course), he thinks that Amazon would be a welcomed addition and a perfect fit in Atlanta.

Pastries n Chaat, a restaurant chain that sells "Indian street food" will be opening a location on Regent Street near the theater. It will be the 5th on the new street and the 3rd on the east side along with Last Course (dessert studio) and Maize. Fireside remains the only open restaurant on Regent but Last Course and the Nashville chicken place should be opening very soon. I believe that leaves 4 empty spaces to be filled but I could be wrong about that.

Ya'll are going to be really suprised then, when Dallas is announced as the new AHQ. Officials from A have visited the area on a handful of occassions, met with a few developers and have even looked at a few building plans. Awe, but we digress. It's like talking about the CCH. It will be announced SOMEDAY and we will all KNOW when that happens. Until then, we can speculate our highrise praying asses off.

I was browsing through some old journals of mine last night and came across this photo of Denver from 1980. It's from a National Geographic magazine. I was really shocked at how much it actually looks like Boise, Idaho, but also couldn't help recognize that SLC is definitely on the "cusp".

As for the Amazon thing. They had their short list made. Just getting every last bit they can from the locals. It will probably end up being a net benefit for what ever region gets it though. The rust belt could sure use a break and land this project. Utahns aren’t crying for jobs but we sure could use high paying jobs. The relatively low wages could be holding back some higher end residential projects. We don’t need to try and land all these distribution projects that come our way. Aim higher

I doubt SLC will ever see the skyline growth Denver experienced during the oil boom (similar to places like Tulsa and Calgary). It'll grow into a decent skyline over the next 20 years, I'm sure, but Denver's skyline is so impressive because of the type of growth that just doesn't exist anymore.
