I'm sure it's one of those situations where somebody was trying to be overly-patriotic and thankful to veterans but did not think before making those donuts. Reminds me of other products such as towels or toilet paper with the flag on them.
Ever since they switched to the flash frozen method, all of their donuts taste the same. They all have the same bland not-quite-food taste. The only exception is the honey cruller. I still haven't figured out if they're really good or really bad when they're underthawed. (I've literally gotten honey crullers with cold centers on multiple occasions.)

I find that all their donuts since they went to being par-baked have lacked taste. Only the icing has flavour. There was that short time of a year to two between when smoking was banned and par-baked was introduced that the donuts tasted great. (around 2000-2001 I think)
I got some Persians yesterday for my coworkers. They're nothing special on their own, really, but when you compare them to the shit from Tim Hortons? They're fucking magical.
There is one bakery here that makes a good variety of donuts the old fashion way (deep fried) and they always sell out early. (My coworker buys them a week in advance to ensure he can get some.) If you eat those, you can't eat Tim Horton's donuts. I go to Tim Hortons occasionally (for bagels and mocha ice caps, neither of which are anything special) but I've never bought a coffee or donuts for myself from there except for the Nutella donuts. (The only thing on them worth the money was the Nutella. And again, Nutella isn't all that special either.)

Sort of but instead of being covered in icing sugar, they just have icing on top. What most of the world thinks of as a Berliner we call Paczki (pronounced PAUNCH-key), or "Polish Jelly Donuts" for those white people who can pronounce "indubitably" but not "jacek".

In K-W too, in the German-Polish bakeries. I don't think K-W has any truly local doughnuts, although fresh apple fritters are popular at the market.

We had a Robin's Donuts in Timmins back in the 1990s so I know what you're talking about! Unfortunately the franchise owners were terrible and couldn't run it well. I've eaten persians in T-Bay and love them.
Robin's Donuts has been run poorly since the late 1990s. For whatever reason they just couldn't emulate what Tim Horton's was doing, despite these days having the same (yes, *same*) coffee and donut supplier.

This little gem just went up in West Point Grey, the favoured area of offshore money ("close to most famous schools!"). The city make multifamily projects jump through all kinds of hoops, but the the builder of Sleeping Beauty's Nightmare Castle here is pretty much free to do what they want design-wise.
