That's actually one of the things that's always bugged me about MHP is that yes the mech is hidden, but the brownish area it's hidden in looks weird and out of place on the rest of the building. Also hate they put the signs there to draw extra attention to it. And it's not lit up lol.
I watched the local documentary Passive Principles: The Story of Manitoba Hydro Place on MTS tv, the architects said the east tower of MHP was supposed to be 3-4 floors higher than the west, but was eventually reduced and evened out with the west side after a year long shadow study on the Air Canada park across the street.

An extra 4 storeys on MHP would have improved the proportions, and by extension, the overall look of the building immensely.

(I am so glad that Air Canada Park was prioritized though)

It'll be nice to see them incorporate these innovations in future Winnipeg developments.

SkyCity meets or surpasses this criteria. (So far.)

There's so many trees at Air Canada Park that there's only one small part that gets sun anyway, brutal.

Well it comes at a cost... To my knowledge, Hydro was built to the tune of over $430 per square foot. That's a monstrous price. It BETTER do all of the above.

Is it me, or did the glazing installation really slow down.

They've been working on it intermittently it seems... When I watch them install the panels out my window, they go quite fast. They can do almost two sides (per floor) of the building in one day.

Right now looks like they have 4 floors done. Those would be floors 5-8, except where the cranes are anchored and the elevator lift is.

Yes, that's what I mean. It seemed to go so fast for a period and then slow to a trickle.

Just curious.

I know wind is a big factor, and it's been pretty windy lately.

Are there any new significant tenants for this building?

^ Haven't heard of any other tenants.

Lots of propane tanks on site now. Anyone know if they'll be stopping construction of the residential tower during winter? The office tower is pretty much topped out so they'll finish that one for sure.

^Wouldn't be surprised if they did as they've guaranteed some Tower 1 tenants a June 2018 move-in.

They're setting up the forms to create the pillars for the next floor right now so they aren't stopping yet.

I think PCL in general were caught off guard by the cold weather. Seems like such a huge effort to heat and hoard is they're not in a big hurry to get the tower done.

But you're right, they're plodding along for now. I'm hoping they stop so we can watch the office tower completion without the residential getting in the way

I heard a rumour that PCL ordered the glazing for one (maybe both) of the towers from China. It had to be cancelled because the units were shipped on a boat and corroded. Aluminum in China has higher levels of steel in it apparently. They went with a North American supplier afterwards.

They also appear to have a natural gas "tree" connected to the building on the Hargrave side. No idea if its just a rough in pending connection to the gas main or in active for some building services.
