That last Vancouver pic is epic. It's also about 2 years old, judging by the state of construction of One Pacific, PARQ Casino and Telus Garden condo tower.

The new towers that have risen since would not radically change the look of things though so I would agree that it would take several towers 250m+ to take it to another level (height-wise).

It's sad that the city just went through a kind of phase where the 1980-90's tabletop was broken through only to form a new slightly higher version of the same.

If our view cones applied to our rain forests, what would result? How magnificent it is to hike through the dense forest and come out onto a shore where you can see for distances encompassing mountains, open sky and ocean. You can get this effect as close as at Lighthouse Park. Never once have I come to a shore and thought the giant trees should be shorter, or sparser, or removed altogether for my view.

I actually like the table-top look with a couple towers sticking out of it. Make it look cohesive and compact. I'd rather have a few more 200m towers first before we shoot for a 250, though even that's a challenge.

Nothing wrong with van's current skyline. Actually I'd call it visually perfect. It doesn't need a 250m. So when the city builds one, you'll be asking for a 300m, a 350m?

The only city in Canada that really needs a 250m tower to break a long-lasting tabletop effect is Montreal.

There's some gaps I'd like to see filled in, but for the most part I agree. There's something visually satisfying about it, as if it's "done." I think the table top contributes to that, while there's enough variation to keep it from being stale.

Good grief Yonge and Eglinton's skyline is being altered.....(tower u/c (Montgomery Square) on right is topped out, the tallest tower still has another 60 or so metres left.

TONS of proposals in the pipeline waiting to go up in the area... the number of tall towers at Y/E will almost double...

I'm going to miss seeing the silouette setbacks of Quantum 2 North from that view riding the 320 but Im liking how the balcony treatment on E Condos is turning out (unlike pretty much every other condo in Y/E)

A Robert Stern designed condo tower would really add some nice variety to that cluster. One can dream.

EDIT: Montogomery Square should be pretty classy, at least the treatment of the heritage portion.

Edmonton is very easy to identify because I used to live in Edmonton for 17 yrs moving back to Ontario 2 yrs ago.

I added "yonge & eglinton" to each database entry. I'm surprised there were only 3 towers built above 100 metres a year ago today. There will be around 14 this time next year.
