I quite like the Rowhouses of the second picture though.

I'm not a fan of faux heritage unless it's done properly. 99% of the time they don't pull it off and ends up looking tacky. They tried to copy red brick Toronto row houses from the Victorian area but got almost everything wrong. Pitch of the roof, roofing material, quality of brick, colour of brick, quality of windows, quality of door, colour of windows, colour of door, proportion of the windows, proportion of the door, lack of brick detailing, ornamention above windows is wrong/cheap, chimney is wrong, gutter is very visible in the front, etc. White plastic fence is awful, landscaping is almost non-existent, even the lamp post bothers me. It's crooked, ugly, and leaning.

It's probably structurally sound. I'm really reaching at straws with that as even that is not a given.

I went to the town of Bareneed on the Port de Grave Peninsula today. It's desolate in the barren northern coast of Newfoundland sort of way...



But their medians, Jesus. This is what they do where the roads near the fish plant split apart:



That one above even has the "WELCOME TO PORT DE GRAVE" sign, see if you can find it, Waldo's leaning on it in that mess.

And there are houses with that much shit on their FRONT lawns.

I find all those above photos very mundane.....the fugliness is nowhere to be seen for myself, except maybe that I dislike the lack of sidewalks that generally occur with housing like the first photo, and the mismatch of brick and sideboarding or what have you.

I'm talking of the top post, not the one just posted right after I finished typing this thing out.

Cool Ukrainian church down the street. Otherwise, yes it looks like a refugee camp. Cash corner in Calgary can be depressing, but nothing like this.

If I remember correctly these are both in Mainland on the Port au Port Peninsula. I think it's a father-son duo. It's horrific, but it gets tourists to pull over and take photos every time.

One that stands out to me is this one in Whycocomagh on Cape Breton Island. Maybe an hour from the boat on the TCH is this gem as you pass through the reserve:

Interesting, but note that the dormers on that house are an exercise in how not to do dormers.
