The Moxy building looks so flimsy. I feel like I could push it over if I tried.

Not to worry, that's not the final color - renderings show a grey/black facade. Hopefully that exterior cladding will give this a bit more visual weight?

Anyone else notice that work seems to have halted on the GEMS addition? Not sure what the hold-up is, but I feel like this one keeps playing games with us. This needs to get built - not because I love the design or the academic institution, but because it will cover up the party wall on Coast. It bothers me to the core every time I see that view from the east.

I've got bad news for you. Even if it does get built, I think the school has had a design change and is now many stories shorter. I don't think the party wall will be completely covered.

This is correct, last time I saw it was cut from 13 to 9 floors above LSE, so that party wall is going to live on somewhat

I've known about the decrease in height, but when comparing the updated renderings to the floor count on Coast (keeping in mind the school building will have taller ceiling heights than the apartment tower), it looks like the top floor on GEMS will come close to the top the wall - but I could be wrong.

^From looking at renderings, the previous GEMS school was several floors higher than the party wall; the building stepped back from the property line beyond that point. The concrete wall on the Coast extends up to the 12th floor including 10 floors of apartments and 2 floors of the building base. Apartment floor to floor heights should be significantly shorter than classroom floors. Therefore, even though the new rendering does not show that angle, the 9 story redesign should cover most or all of the concrete side wall of The Coast.

^ Well that's a relief. The Coast is entirely clad in glass, so having even a few floors of painted concrete would really look out of place.

Unlike the Chandler, which has concrete going up its narrow sides. The exposed 12 story party wall, while still pretty damn awful, won't look as out of place as on the Coast. I hope they at least paint it the same color as the concrete on the rest of the building.

North Branch developer pitches Bucktown sports stadium to Amazon
The proposed athletic complex is just one possibility outlined in Sterling Bay’s ‘Lincoln Yards’ HQ2 bid
BY JAY KOZIARZ OCT 30, 2017, 10:15AM CDT

Quote:
Of the ten sites submitted in Chicagoland’s official bid for Amazon’s coveted ‘HQ2’ second headquarters, one is selling the Seattle-based tech company on the idea of its own sports and concert venue. Slated for the west bank of the Chicago River’s North Branch in Bucktown, the proposed stadium is just one component of Sterling Bay’s bold vision for an Amazon-anchored Lincoln Yards campus, according to new materials obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

Sterling Bay had released an initial batch of renderings providing a glimpse of the mixed-use mega-project last month. The early images showed a number of new low- to mid-rise buildings as well as a riverwalk component, a new athletic field, and a zig-zagging extension of the 606 Trail. At the time, the developer confirmed it was hoping the plan would catch Amazon’s eye.

The latest pitch materials show a Lincoln Yards site tailor-made for the tech giant and the 50,000 employees expected to accompany HQ2. In addition to the aforementioned Amazon-branded stadium, the conceptual images provide the company with options when it comes to the layout and design of the waterfront complex.

That would be awesome. It would definitely raise their profile in Chicagoland as well by having such a highly visible stadium

The very first time that I got to see the newly redeveloped Soldier Field was for a Fire game. I always thought that their move to Bridgeview wasn't in their best interest. They seriously screwed the town too with that new stadium. Bridgeview financed it entirely with tax dollars, with the assumption that the surrounding area would bring in commercial and hotel development. It did not (stadiums are notorious for NOT panning out as good anchors to an entertainment district, especially one being built from nothing), and now they have some of the highest property taxes in Cook County.

The Fire moving from Toyota Park would be the nail in the coffin for that town. Oh well

Tthe Fire's average attendance this year was about 17,000. Capacity is 20,000, but it peaked at 21,891 against Toronto.

Wanna guess the attendance of their Wednesday night playoff game? About 11,500. Bridgeview is clearly unacceptable from a business standpoint and a fan standpoint.

Was anyone at the 35th ward meeting about downzoning Milwaukee Avenue? If so, can you corroborate what this reddit poster said about the meeting in the Pilsen vandalism thread

"FYI, at the Milwaukee Avenue downzoning meeting last night one of the anti downzoning people was saying "we need more new residents" and the Aldermans own aide said "yeah but those new residents all happen to be white". Basically confirming that the alderman's office sees whites moving into a neighborhood as a problem."
