That New West Army and Navy building is possibly the ugliest building in the entire city (plus it's leaking). Therefore I see no reason why they should not redevelop the site, have a new retail podium for a nicer Army and Navy, but at the same time propping a 20-storey tower on top of it. That would spruce up the looks of Columbia Street big time.

Chopard Opens in Vancouver’s Luxury Zone: Swiss luxury watchmaker and jewellery brand Chopard has opened a boutique in Vancouver. The street-front location is at 925 W. Georgia Street in Cathedral Place, next to Black Goat Cashmere and across the street from the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver that houses Gucci, Dior and Louis Vuitton stores.

North America’s Largest Rolex Flagship to Expand: Vancouver’s 2,750 square foot Rolex store at 1119 Alberni Street in the base of the Shangri-La Hotel will expand by annexing a retail space formerly housing the Bombay Brow Bar. The Rolex Boutique opened in September of 2016 and is operated by Global Watch Company. CBRE Vancouver's Martin Moriarty and Mario Negris negotiated the deal.

deciem is opening in metrotown, just near superstore, its got a pretty big cult following, i believe it was started in toronto and has a good following in europe, they have entered a partnership with estee lauder too

retail insider reports Fendi home and bentley are opening on pender street near victory square. Louis Vuitton is opening its first mens store for Canada in holt renfrew in Vancouver and nordstrom is adding some mens boutiques to their vancouver store.

Nordstrom’s CF Pacific Centre flagship in Vancouver is seeing such strong sales for its luxury brands, including menswear, that the company is taking the unprecedented step of creating dedicated luxury menswear boutiques — a Valentino men’s shop was recently unveiled for the popular collection, and a couple more are expected to follow. Staff say they expect a Balenciaga shop-in-store to be next, with a third brand undetermined, and possibly Calvin Klein, who’s elevated menswear collection is carried in the Vancouver store.

As part of the deal, WeWork will make a $500 million investment in HBC along with Rhone Capital, which formed a joint venture with WeWork to create WeWork Property Advisors. It also will convert the top floors of some of HBC’s department stores, beginning with the upper floors of the Hudson’s Bay locations on Queen Street in Toronto and Granville Street in Vancouver and Galeria Kaufhof in Frankfurt, into office space and pay market rent to HBC.

In light of Sears manipulating prices for the liquidation, I am probably the only one not pointing finger at them. I hardly refer it as a "scam" because you see and feel the product before you buy. If you see the product worth how ever much, then you buy. Not because it says 90% discount, you decide whether it is worth buying ultimately. 90% discount is a psychological game to make you think it is a deal. So many businesses do the same thing , mark up the price and shout 50% off, 70% off, Close Out sale lasting for years. A scam is when they falsely over advertise the value of the product and yet charging phenomenal price, like so many of the miracle creams, vacation accommodations etc. After all Sears in receivership, it only wants to recuperate as much worth as possible. Btw I am not affiliated with Sears in any way, shape or form.

I'm not entirely sure on the legality, maybe someone who knows for sure can comment, but I thought that retailers have to actually at some point sell it at the regular price. That they can't just jack up the "regular" price and sell it at a "sale" price, making the sale price really the normal price.

And I wouldn't expect big discounts at sears yet. They have till mid January to liquidate. Lots of time. I think after Xmas is when they will really start to want to dump everything

If no one is monitoring and enforcing laws (if there are any), then retailers, or any businesses can do whatever they want if they can get away with it. Making profit, or in this case the prevention of more losses, is the primary aim.

This is very interesting. They would be joining Versace at the neighbourhood. I wonder if Versace is doing well. Hardly see anyone whenever I pass by the place.

Not surprised here. They would probably be better off in a mall. This is the first major setback for the Alberni Street "luxury zone" area, following in the footsteps of nearby Robson Street.

I am certainly no legality expert. But in Sears case, people do have a choice to buy or not to buy. It is not like people lured into buying something far greater than it actual value.
