3Eleven Illinois

High Ceilings at the top.

Seems rather forced, a dead space between the outside of the column and the corner of the "trail" (what do you call a railing when it is not a rail ?).

Possibly a planter in each corner ? tricky to water. Would have made a nice rounded corner if the railing just met the column.

Street Wall for the El ride.

The Wells construction is insane--totally transformative. This was this morning:

User Delirium saved me a trip to the Hancock Center to recreate a shot I took back in 2002 as a starry-eyed freshman visiting the big city. Check out the huge differences that fifteen years can make. I look forward to coming back in 2032 to see the next wave of buildings making their mark.

^^^ Great comparison which will transform even further in the next two years just with what is already U/C. The south loop as pictured by Joe is basically doing that GIF overnight right now.

+ Spire site (?), and Wolf Point just out of view, quite a nice 5 year plan, not to mention what's in the other direction.

I started a thread in the Sketchup Forum called "My Chicago Model". I'll be posting a bunch more shots in there.

The model also has a layer turned off with a ton of cancelled buildings and other visionary projects that never got built such as the Spire, the Waldorf, the Miglin Beitler Skyneedle, the Instant city, and a bunch others. After I do some clean up I'll post those too. Pretty cool to see what could of been.

I too was a freshman in 2002. Damn I feel old

Awesome time lapse gif. Its amazing how much the skyline has changed over the course of time. Arguably probably one of the most transformative periods of time for Chicago's built environment, right up there with the 1920s and the late 60s/early 70s.

If I could take that shot of 2017 back to my college self, I'm sure I wouldn't believe it!
