Here are the plans for turning the Commodore Perry Estate into a hotel. There are lots of photos in the link. They are also planning two other hotels for the site.

Interesting. I wonder if this will increase interest in the Hancock area...i think that shopping center has excellent potential for mixed use redevelopment ala Highland Mall.

You're gonna have to pry that from HEB and 24 hour fitness cold dead hands. Its the busiest HEB and gym in town.

HEB also owns the shopping center IIRC. They bought it after the mall failed and converted it into a strip mall.

Or even remodel and build new stuff around them like they did with the Drafthouse at Lamar Union.

YES. Twitter rumormongering is the best mongering.

Seriously though . . . any movement at all on that block would generate some buzz I'd think . . . at least more than just a twitter mention. It's a FULL CITY BLOCK after all.

Hopefully the city has some foresight to look into making it a potential transit hub. If only for bus exchanges for now and a plan for light-rail later. It's the optimal spot for a large interchange in towntown as it's pretty smack dab both East/West and North/South (especially with the construction going on in the vicinity.

I'm partial to the courthouse block for a transit hub, but I agree with you generally: it's time to start laying in infrastructure for a more dense downtown, and specifically more dense in that area.

Now that a lot of the current wave of construction is well above ground, I was mentally tallying what's going to break ground next . . . and came up pretty short. The Marriott, maybe? Everything else of consequence still seems to be in the permitting/planning process.

What am I missing?

Not much left for this year iifc, 2018 will be a big year though.

That's the only fenced in site I can think of...where demolition appears to be imminent.

It's been over a year since anything significant broke ground. The trio of 70 Rainey, Austin Proper and Third + Shoal all broke ground around the same time last year in August/September.

Yep, this is what I was remembering. Several pops all at once. We're in a bit of a lull right now, IMO. Not that the pipeline's empty, by any means, but nothing (aside the Marriott, maybe) ready to go in the next couple of months.

In addition to Marriott site prep, there is also site prep at SXSW on 14th and the state office building at Congress and MLK. Obviously not super exciting tall buildings, but still great projects.

And let's not forget there there is a flurry of construction throughout the city including large projects like Plaza Saltillo.

And the AC Autography Hotel. I believe they have all their permits. That one isn't the tallest one - it's "only" 11 floors and 143 feet tall, but it's going up in an area without much height in the immediate area and that lacks many hotels.

I tried doing a search, but the terms are too broad. Sorry if already posted.

So, a guy on shaggy that contacted me early in 2016 about 900 Congress, 823 Congress & parking garage, and Cielo trying to develop it or sell it, got back to me today after I had asked what's happening.

Cielo sold 823 Congress, the parking garage at 900 Brazos, and the surface lot at 109-114 9th St to Brickman last year in September or so.

This guy told me Brickman is working on updating the façade to brighten it up, add a sidewalk café area, and possibly a restaurant on the corner of 9th & Congress.
