Naheed Nenshi is a card carrying Muslim who like Justin Trudeau and Iqra Khalid(M103) are working to destroy Canada's values and replace them with Islam and Sharia Law. This isn't fear mongering but the truth. Look at Europe and London's Muslim Mayor Sadiq Khan. Khan has promoted Islam in and around London and Terrorism, Rapes and Crime have skyrocketed! Islam is an Satanic cult. Do your homework. Study the Quran, Siri and Hadith's, and see if I'm not telling the truth!

You can't hide the truth of your cult. The new terrorist attacks this morning proves my point! There are NO moderate Muslims because Muhammed commanded all Muslims to kill the kaffir, infidel and anyone who doesn't bow to your fake moon god Allah!

With all we know about Islam and it's satanic ideology, I can't see Calgarians voting for Muslim Mayor Naheed Nenshi unless they want Calgary to follow in the same footsteps of London's Terrorist Muslim Mayor Sadiq Khan!

M O'K --- That sounds all fuzzy and nice, but I'm sure most Calgarians would rather have a non-muslim Mayor fight for them who isn't trying to convert Calgary into an Islamic Sharia City.

Re-posting hate filled vitriol onto a new forum from another to attempt to prove your point, while helping that racist poster spread their hate speech is beyond misguided. It is acts like you just did Suburbia that make zero sense and that people like that poster love.

It was already clearly stated that yes, there "are" wingnuts on any side of these things these days that use things like elections to spread hate speech. Why are "YOU" now helping them spread their hate speech? You think anyone on here was saying there is zero hate speech out there towards Nenshi and you really needed to cross post those?

Agreed that calling people who don't want Nenshi racist is not helpful, though I personally know at least one (brown) person who has never and will never vote for him for that very reason. Well, that and the muslim thing... He's also convinced he's gay...

Sadly it seems to me that the biggest reason so many people are willing to vote for Smith, is simply political tribalism. That means that it doesn't matter if Smith is the best guy for the job. All that matters is that he's 'our' guy.

Nenshi has ticked off the home builders and the Flames. This is a good thing because it shows that he's not willing to be pushed around by wealthy special interests but those same special interests, who are already smarting from being shut out of Ottawa federally by Trudeau and provincially by Notley are highly motivated to get their foot back in the halls of power by throwing everything they can at the city race.

Re-posting hate comments from someone on Youtube onto this forum isn't helping anything. Have you ever actually read comments on an online news article or on basically any Youtube video?? It's the norm to have vitriol filled comments.

The City tweeted that today's advance poll had 14,395 votes cast which is the highest yet. So far in total we're up to 58,663.

So what you're saying is that hate speech, racism, and a variety of discrimination is basically the norm in your view, and thus we should ignore it? The only reason I posted here is because there were some deniers.

It is really unprecedented. Number of voters took a real jump in 2010, and while down in 2014 were still quite robust. This type of advanced voting tells me a few things. Firstly, that the city and whomever coordinates municipal elections has done a great job in getting the word out and making voting super accessible. Secondly, that the people energized in 2010 and 2013 have remained engaged. I'm unclear whom a skew to advanced polling will be better for, but if it is an implication that more voters will be out overall, I'd say that will help whomever is gaining traction with the 18-34 year old crowd. Mainstreet Research tells us that would be Bill Smith, but I'm not convinced. Guess we'll find out six days from now!

I agree with the spirit of your comment, but I wanted to highlight that he has not ticked off all the home builders, and you'll find some in his donors list, including Trico Homes as an example. The two specific ones that have aligned themselves against Nenshi are not only builders but also developers. These are really the big dogs who make money at multiple layers in the development and building process: Cal Wenzel and Jay Westman - two of the super rich in this area.

It might be worthwhile to watch that original video of Cal setting forward some strategies:
https://globalnews.ca/news/505627/exclus...nzel-talking-to-a-meeting-of-developers/
Quote:
Cal Wenzel, the founder of Shane Homes, presents developers and home builders with his plan to control city council by backing development-friendly candidates.
Quote:
Wenzel points to the high cost of running a civic election campaign and encourages the attendees to donate to candidates he supports. He also discusses other ways his preferred candidates can be supported.

“One of the things you look at when getting rid of an incumbent such as Druh Farrell or Pincott- the candidates Kevin Taylor, James Maxim, are suggesting they need somewhere in the area of $150,000 to $200,000 in their campaign funds.

“Now that could be a little bit less because Chris has promised every United truck he owns to be made available and he is going to print signs on their computers, so maybe he can get by with $125,000 – that is how much money these guys think they need.”

I'm tickled pink with all the ways that the city has made advance polling available, with the drive-up station, the vote bus at multiple train stations, etc. Voting should be easy!

It exists, but it exists everywhere around the world in many forms, and from groups of people. Re-posting the comments here in order to get pity for Nenshi isn't going to work. As someone mentioned earlier, it's not the only racism happening in this election. You know very well that every Muslim in Calgary will be automatically choosing Nenshi because he's Muslim. It may not be a hate post on twitter, but it's still racism.

The line gets blurry at that point. I had this talk with my father in law back when Obama first got elected, as he pointed out that every black person in the US was voting for Obama just because he was black. At the time I didn't see his point of view, but I see it more in this case.
Every Muslim in Calgary will vote for Nenshi, there won't ever be stats on this, but it's highly likely that'll be the case. You'll have a lot of whites voting for Nenshi, but very few if any muslims or people from India/Pakistan region voting for the other candidates, and was no doubt the case in the last two elections.
Don't try and bring up racism to get sympathy unless you're prepared to look at it from angles.

I really don't know that, and neither do you. I don't know how many of the 5.2% of Muslim Calgarians who have voted/will vote for Nenshi for no other reason than his faith. Nor do I know how many Christian (54.9%) or "not a visible minority" (67.3%) Calgarians refuse to vote for him for no reason other than his faith. (Numbers from 2011, from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Calgary).

I honestly don't want to make a big deal of these factors, because they have a decent chance of canceling out. But for some reason, I can't resist arguing against obviously ridiculous statements using absolute terms like "every".

If you believe that, you're more uneducated and ignorant than I thought.

Hey - I noticed you only joined this construction forum shortly before the election, and you've not really posted anything construction related. LOL!

Well done, those are all the politically correct answers, but not the realistic answers. Whatever.

There is no indication this is true for this election or any other. Saying this without factual basis means you are saying it based on your pre-conceived notions of a particular cultural or religious group; something you are projecting.

Let's dispense with this idea. I have no doubt that large numbers of the Muslim community will be voting for Nenshi, but I suspect that many will not.

By saying that EVERY Muslim will be voting for Nenshi is to dismiss the values and intentions of an entire community, and it ignores that all voters, individuals, have different priorities.

These comments are just as biased and lacking of substance as any other that gets thrown around by those who view Nenshi negatively because of his racial or religious background, and it's beneath this forum.

This thread would be a decent discussion thread if we could get rid of the following:

Suburbia

My posts have probably been among the most insightful and informative in this thread. Just exactly what have you contributed?

Wow watched some of the debate.

Bill Smith is incredibly under informed. Did he not read into anything? I was curious to hear his plans with the arena, green line etc and he doesn't give a clear answer on anything.

He's literally running on "I'm not Nenshi" and is avoiding answering anything or giving any real plans.

Duh... a fact established a long time ago. Still that doesn't mean getting rid of Nenshi isn't desirable to many.
