Hey. It's a quality hole. We've only lost one lane of Albert Street for a few years to get it too.

It's a great start on building our own P/M underground and getting those nasty pedestrians away from the traffic.

I wish the city never allowed them a demo permit for the hotel. They are not going to build any sky scraper. Let's get that clear and move on. They want to build another parkade and 🞵🞵🞵🞵 in the cash flow. That's all it is.

Another sh*tty part of the whole thing... the city wouldn't grant The Pint permits to turn their parking lot into a big patio this summer on the grounds that St. Regis would be torn down and all the excavation would make it "unsafe" (dust pollution?) for a patio behind it. They turned this down for a business that took a big risk on an underdeveloped street downtown and sunk almost $2 million into a building that was due for the wrecking ball. Then the "unsafe" thing never happened.

Now THAT pisses me off. I love The Pint. We started going there because we actually bought one of these condos and thought we should get to know the area a little better. Whether the dang building gets built or not, we are huge Pint fans now.

Yeah, many people aren't that fond of it, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would say they haven't done a great job with the building, in a tough location, and it's always busy. Bringing another one of their concepts here, in that area, is still on the table for them – Winnipeg has the highest $/seat of all except the original in Edmonton.

I was really hoping THEY would take over the St. Regis and turn it into one of their CRASH Hotels. It fits the model PERFECTLY. They converted a rundown, seedy old hotel near the arena into a "party hotel" for people to crash at after games and events. Has a great cocktail bar and a party pub in it. Rooms are cheap and targeted at sub-30 arena patrons.

Just another in a long list of "the tail wagging the dog" here in smallville!

Almost makes you wonder why anyone would want to do business here.

^Yup and the worst part about it is the city didn't actually give them an official answer until late June (they began the process in February), meaning even if it got approved, they'd have lost out on half the season at least.

That crash hotel is spectacular. I thought the Carlton inn would have been great for something like that. So many options. St Charles. St regis. Royal Albert. Thanks for posting it.

Yeah, every single room is different. Mine had a Han Solo mural on the wall, there was another one that had Star Wars sheets as the bedding. Red Bull fridge in every room with a stacked not-so-mini-bar.

Vendome still has hope!

I say there's still hope for St Regis. When Fortress fails to even demo the St Regis, perhaps a Crash hotel is still and option, and most of the interior will have already been gutted and ready to bring up to code!

The city is probably banking on them tearing it down. City centre needs more parking anyway. Especially for those poor boys amd girls in the new police HQ

Another great hotel in Edmonton is the Union Bank Inn. I would love to see a conversion like that in Winnipeg.

That was my favourite place to stay in Edmonton before I retired.

Is anything at all still moving with this project? I honestly wonder if the city shouldn't stop the charade and prevent the developer from demolishing the St. Regis given that the prospects of a new tower are becoming less likely by the month.
