There's no keyhole for a special key for technicians?

I'm a fan of these OMB designs, but I also like the huge open feel of the Metrotown station.

I don't think skytrain station house has Wifi. But Translink is working on making Wifi available on Rapid Transit.

The two things that are needed at the major stations (the ones that see a lot of ridership and are major transfer points) are WiFi and restrooms.

Official announcement from Infrastructure Canada.

Joyce-Collingwood Station east stationhouse renovation complete

Quote:
This first phase of upgrades to the Joyce-Collingwood Station cost approximately $27 million. The Government of Canada provided $5.7 million through the Building Canada Fund, the Government of British Columbia contributed $11.5 million and the remainder was provided by TransLink.

Work begins next month on the second phase of this initiative involving improvements to the west stationhouse and east bus loop. Provincial and federal support for this phase will be delivered through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.

From what I read, all the renovated skytrain stations have space provisioned for further restroom. However there is no decision on actually building one as there is management, maintenance and security issue that need to be resolved.

Can't they put one of those self-cleaning toilet units near the station entrance?

I haven't use one so I don't know how well it works.
The facility still needs to be maintained and monitored by staff. If the toilet is clogged, flooding can cause serious damage to the station house.

The small ones that I've used work well enough. They are self-contained enough as well that if something goes wrong they don't also make a complete mess.
Now, the one at Main Street on the other hand......
I've been trying to use that one for five years and STILL cannot get the — door to open. I'm almost positive at this point you simply cannot use it and it is merely a showpiece. I end up having to walk all the way up to main/hastings or go to the McDonalds.

The one at Joyce new east station house has a keypad. When a contractor needs access to the paid area to do work, Translink can just provide the code.
Also in an emergency situation when passengers need to be evacuated quickly, that special door can be used.

Pics I took today

Pic I took today.

The new commercial retail unit at the west end of the east station house.
The temporary staircase that is currently blocking the retail unit will need to be removed.

The new station house at Joyce looks really nice. Brightly lit, straightforward, and functional design.

Joyce looks awesome - just seems like someone put some thought on how to combine materials in one sleek package.

The only thing I'm a bit surprised about the station is the lack of glass manifestation, especially by the gates - it seems like eventually someone will run into the glass...

Small follow up on Comm'l-Bway:

Trolley wires have been re-wired, and route 9 has resumed trolley service since early September.

Is there a staircase in the East Stationhouse @ Joyce?
Just wondering if the new norm is to have all escalators and no staircase?

Yes, the original staircase still exists and is being rebuilt.
I think staircase is still useful in some situation(e.g. power outage which happened to the area a few times already this year).
