Check this out on Netflix, it hits the nail on the head on most topics that matter most in our lives:

"Where to Invade Next" by Michael Moore

An eye opening classic example how North American ways and management fails all of us vs. Europe etc.

We should learn a few things from countries that have better results...

I watched it and believe me the cherry picking that Michael Moore does in that movie about how Europe is all roses and unicorns and the bad evil USA is a 3rd world hell hole leaves his previous movies in the dust.

He should have stopped after "Roger and Me"

These people were always there, and in massive numbers, you just never really saw them so long as you stayed in the West and North.

Half-joking aside, it's kind of depressing that Second Cup can't compete against a juggernaut like Starbucks. It's tough to find places that sell premium products without acting completely pretentious about it. Curiously, there are still two in Guelph- a place which always struck me as even more "bifurcated" than London.

Consider yourself lucky, when I was in university residence it would go on until 3am or 4am sometimes. Really sucked when you had a calculus exam the next day. And my friends wondered why I moved to a quiet apartment in hell's half acre (aka Adelaide Street) for second year.

There's several Second Cup locations in downtown Toronto (key word is "several", as opposed to "many"). I've gone a couple of times but I don't care for their coffee, I find it watery.

The location closest to where I work, even in the morning, is mostly deserted. Everyone goes to the nearby Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and independent shops.

I just noticed that you've changed your location to Willowdale - didn't know you were working in Toronto now. We've literally swapped places (I left Toronto to come work in London- a very rare occurrence I assure you).

As far as coffee goes, I cannot understand peoples' continued attachment to Tim Hortons. Baffles me. The burnt, oozing dark liquid my office passes off as coffee is still a cut above the dishwater Tim's seems to do so well with.

Second Cup (we used to call it "Second Crap") made major inroads into Montreal a few years before Starbucks really got going....the coffee culture was well established for decades in Montreal (with many homegrown chains as well as independents), so I couldn't figure out what the big deal was with Starbucks et al. I still don't see what is so great about it; although compared to Rim Whoreton's, it is automatically pretty special.

I think many SC locations in Montreal have closed or have been converted to SBs.

Tim Horton's has been going down the toilet since the early 90s. I recall the old days: you could sit at the counter, and a matronly-like employee would serve you great coffee in a mug. The donuts were baked on site, and there was great variety. None of the shitty meal options of the contemporary period. Every day, there is something new at Tim's. Lasagna. Greek Wraps. Pannini. Potato wedges. Shit on a stick, with corn. The donuts taste like glazed hockey pucks, and the coffee, like burnt gutter water.

I remember those days, my step dad used to take me every Sunday morning and we would sit at the little bar like area, me with my hot chocolate and donut lol.

Now you get frozen products shipped in and absolutely terrible coffee. I honestly do not understand the people who go there daily and actually pay for it. McDonald's coffee by comparison is actually pretty good if I need something cheap on the go.

Aroma Cafe - Coming to Masonville Mall!
That is a nice addition after Second Cup left.
For the ones that don't know what that is: A high end coffee shop with good espresso in proper tiny ceramic cups served with chocolate and biscuit and cup of water on the side. The European style! There is one at Younge/Eglinton in TO.

Personally I love Timmy's coffee but SC was horrid and Starbucks has that dreadful burnt taste because they double roast the beans.

Phil is right. There is zero chance Amazon will give a moments notice of any bid by London to be their 2nd world headquarters.

We don't make it thru most of their criteria to even be in the running.

The most likely city is Boston and that's been the rumour in the IT world for a while now.

It would be great to have Amazon in London ON, or at least Canada as a region. We need Amazon.ca to have the same stock as Amazon.com and similar prices. We usually get screwed north of the border! I hope our city council and mayor do all they can to sweeten the deal for getting Amazon. The long term benefits would be Yoouuuge!

I've been doing this for years now. People think I'm an ass, but I'm not only within my legal right to use the ending lane to the merge point, but I'm actually helping out traffic flow by doing so. Those who are not letting me in are actually the ass hahaha

Having said that, If I happen to be in the lane that's continuing I'm not going to be a jerk and change lanes just to merge back in.

Everyone should do it. It won't be a 100% system but every little bit helps!
