New renderings from Trinity's website.

There's now a pedestrian bridge over the entrance to the site.

The building in the distance looks a lot shorter than in previous renderings. Definitely not taller than 50 floors. Change of plans?

On a side note, I noticed on Trinity's website that they're now calling this project "Trinity Centre at Bayview Station" instead of "Trinity Station". I'm liking the name change.

Good to see the city taking some initiative to get this project going, it'll develop some prime land and I'm sure it'll attract strong interest because of its access to LRT.

I think the renderings are kind of bland though. They look like uninspiring cookie cutter glass condos. If these are going to be the city's tallest buildings, you'd think the developers would want these to really standout as it would literally change the skyline. I know there's still time to make some tweaks but if thats what they are going with, its not bad by any means, just kinda of 'meh'.

Also, I really hope they don't cut down the height. 190m, 175m and 160m would do wonders for our short and stubby skyline and I'm a bit of a height junkie but thats just me.

Trinity Centre at Bayview Station is a much better name. Old name would have been confusing, like the Westboro Staton condo building, no where near Westboro Station.

I think the renderings look fine. The design is a huge step up for this city. Wouldn't fly in Toronto or Calgary, but great for Ottawa.

Kind of bland for Toronto, maybe. But Ottawa doesn't really have an over abundance of buildings like this for it to qualify as "bland" in my opinion.

My only complaint is that they're not going for the even more ambitious 4 tower option with the 4th tower over the Trilium Line tracks.

Doesn't look any worse than how the Hullmark Centre at Yonge and Sheppard turned out.

I think once you throw in some store signage it'll add some colour and make it a little more interesting.

Also hoping that they didn't cut down on the height, these towers will look great if built at the originally proposed heights

I wasn't going to comment on the tower designs because I wasn't sure if those were actual renders or more like just "place-holders".

At first I was critical, thinking "BORING!" but you know what, they aren't that bad. They are clean, modern, and to me look International style... not a bad thing for Ottawa considering the other options we have.

So I'm a bit on the fence. Would like to see some different, more interesting designs but if this was built at this height with quality materials, I wouldn't be too mad either...

That basically sums up my opinion, as long as there's quality materials used then I won't complain at all.

Yeah if this was proposed in Toronto they'd — all over this project (even though they have had their fair share of crappy and plain looking glass condos recently) but since we have very few buildings like this they will stand out and hopefully in a good way.

Well, looks like it's happening. I wonder if they're open to being a part of Amazon HQ2 if Ottawa is selected.

Trinity to break ground on $400M Albert Street skyscraper project in coming days

Peter Kovessy

Preliminary work on constructing the tallest towers in Ottawa is slated to start by the end of the month, according to the lead developer behind the project.

Trinity Developments is planning three mixed-use towers of between 50 and 59 storeys at 900 Albert St., across from the Bayview O-Train station near the north end of Preston Street.

Speaking at the Ottawa Real Estate Forum last week, Mark D’eon – Trinity Development Group’s senior vice-president of leasing – said the firm hoped to break ground in the coming days.

“We hope to start shortly,” he told OBJ on the sidelines of the conference.

Mr. D’eon said Trinity Centre at Bayview Station will be the largest development project in the company’s history.

Utility relocation to be completed by June

The first step in the development is to relocate several municipal water and sewer lines that crisscross the property at a cost of $10.71 million.

Ottawa general contractor Doran Construction will be tasked with this job, which Trinity says is scheduled to wrap up by June 2018.

That would clear the way to start constructing the three towers, which would contain a total of 200,000 square feet of office space, 130,000 square feet of retail and some 1,400 residential rental units.

Mr. D’eon said there would be a direct pedestrian link from the retail podium to Bayview Station, which will service both the north-south Trillium Line as well as the east-west Confederation Line.

On the residential side, Mr. D’eon highlighted the success of Ottawa’s LIV apartment complex as a model for Trinity Station.

Several years ago, CLV and InterRent REIT – which purchased a $14.2-million stake in Trinity Station over the summer – purchased the rundown rental buildings on Bell Street, near Bronson and Gladstone avenues, and repositioned the property with upscale amenities such as a gym, rooftop terrace and pet spa.

“The residential (component) needs to be something spectacular,” Mr. D’eon said.

Trinity said the timeline for the overall project has not yet been determined.

A recent city report – prepared in support of an application by the developers for $8.26 million in grants over 10 years to offset the costs of cleaning up contamination on the site – put the overall construction cost of the project at $400 million.

A Trinity spokesperson confirmed the cost is “within this range.”

Even if they didn't directly lease space to Amazon, they would surely benefit with their apartment/condo/hotel/retail components.

This is exciting. I just hope the construction doesn't go at a snails pace, as is tradition in Ottawa.

Usually rentals get built lightning fast. We might actually see these finished in a few short years.

I don't think there has been anything said about the staging of this project, has there? I would have guessed at least seven or eight years, start to finish, depending on rental market conditions. It's a lot of apartments ....

Is there a place on this forum where we can keep a running list of all the new rentals going up?

I didn't even know they had the proper approval for this project and the height... Hmm...

Do we know the exact heights of the towers vs Claridge Icon?

Also, smart idea for them to start as early as possible and snag the demand. If they wait too long, Lebreton Flats will start going up, and demand might saturate earlier and their project will be on hold.

OK, I live on the West Coast, but be sure to inundate this forum with construction photos. I dont necessarily love the architecture, but the concept and size has me enthralled. And I just need a fix.
