They should just buy the bus depot and be done with it.

The new proposed approval says:

That a landscape plan be submitted, approved by the City of Regina and consistent with perimeter screening requirements of the Regina Zoning Bylaw No. 9250. The landscape shall be installed by September 15, 2018.

Anyway the Taylor Field idea seems rather contrary to the original aims of urban renewal.

No it's smaller, but what I mean is that they should use it in addition to the existing building since it's directly across the street.

With the Greyhound operations moving to Regina International Airport, why is there still no transit connection to the airport??? Boggles my mind that the City could be so stupid.

I spoke to Ward 3 Councillor Andrew Stevens in the summer about this issue. I told him to my knowledge this may be the only "major" International Airport in Canada or perhaps North America with no transit to the airport and that I felt it was a major oversight.

He stated that its a question of funding and transit priorities and that it will be considered in the 2018 budget [$115,000/year ask and 2x30' buses @ $850,000]. He stated that the Arcola Avenue East was likely the only transit route prioritized higher than YQR service so there is some chance it could be approved for 2018.

Hahaha!!!! Well, it wouldn't take much of an effort to eclipse the appearance of Saskatoon's police headquarters. Externally, it look looks akin to a 1950s Soviet era office building. (Or KGB headquarters, lol!!!)

Speaking of transit, the city's Facebook page had a post yesterday about some transit changes and they're looking for input. I know some of you have some great ideas.

There are surveys at http://www.regina.ca/residents/transit-services/regina-transit/web-schedules/route-changes/ but these appear to be geared toward specific routes.
They'll also be at the Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre on the 12th looking for feedback.
While the intent is to discuss specific route changes, it might be a good opportunity to be heard. They seem to be fairly interactive on the Facebook post even though most of the comments I read had nothing to do with the proposed changes. Might be worth it?

Speaking of the Arcola Express Transit Route, I am mystified as to what the City just constructed at Arcola and ring Road interchange. See the red arrow in photo for the location of a new, small, dead-end lane they constructed. It is about big enough for a bus but it goes nowhere. They snarled traffic on both Arcola and Assiniboine for nearly a month to construct this tiny and seemingly useless area. That is a story for another time about how insensitive the City is to obstructing traffic.

Does anyone have a clue what they have built?

It's supposed to allow buses to jump the lights, but I'm skeptical it works.

Arcola Express is the single greatest transit need in the city. 15 years too late, but I'm thrilled it's finally coming

I see. The buses will come up the 3rd far right lane and instead of turning on to the Ring Road, they will continue to this new lane and will have their own, dedicated, buses-only signal that will let them proceed on Arcola. This is actually quite ingenious as this is the single biggest bottle neck on Arcola. The City could have widened the overpass when they re-built it a few years ago, but missed the opportunity.

One issue will be left-turners off north bound Ring Road. They will need to learn to make a proper turn into the correct left hand lane to avoid colliding with the buses.

I'm curious to see how this works. If it turns into a park and ride, there will never be parking again at the Schmirler pool and Sunrise library branch. That parking lot is often busy as it is. I don't know how you get around that though.

City has announced plans to redevelop the Regent Park Par 3 golf course. Of their proposed uses, I suspect they might be better to put in an indoor skate park instead of housing. Kids living in that area would benefit from a rec facility.

He stated he continues to have those conversations but he didn't give me the impression it was a done deal. Significant uncertainty for 2018.

If anyone feels strongly, they can reach out to the Councillor to share why its important. He will also suggest anyone interested in the issue should put a brief email into City Hall.

Andrew Stevens stated that the likelihood that service to YQR will be prioritized/implemented is proportional to the perceived demand for the service. Right now the way to judge demand seems to be whether anyone writes into City Hall about this.

Will be interesting to see if it actually works. If they don't time the bridge lights properly, I do not see it helping that much.

This morning I passed by the overpass and spotted a new sign "Bus priority traffic signal" (or something like that) on the traffic light standard.

Here is the City's webpage describing how it will work.

When will this go into effect (or has it already ...)?
