I agree bill. I don't mind the lettering at all. Fairly appropriate for the building. I'm just not sold on the giraffe pattern. There's an over abundance of talent along the Wasatch that creates phenomenal stained glass art for the LDS Church Temples, and other public and private development. I wish they would have used some of that talent, it's world class.

The giraffe pattern would be much more appropriate on a work of art at an elementary school, or some type of children's hospital etc.

And don't forget- this cost $325,000
As a graphic designer this hurts my soul. Who decided it was ok to split words in the middle to fit across the windows?

I had a thought... Is google fiber a factor in Amazon's search for their HQ2? Because Salt Lake City is a google fiber city, whereas Denver is a Webpass only city.

I think being around 2 hours closer to Seattle is SLC'S best selling point over Denver. Denver can do pretty much anything SLC can except move their airport closer to downtown or their city closer to Seattle.

Downtown's proximity to SLC international is one of our biggest advantages. Denver is ridiculously far from their airport.

I think Salt Lake was one of the last if not the last city to get Google fiber before they discontinued expansion.

Corporations don't use Google Fiber. Corporate fiber has existed in SLC for over a decade. Maybe it could be a factor if employees want to have fiber at home.

Option 5 (A.K.A Operation Clean Slate)

I actually think we should start exercising this option immediately, regardless if Amazon builds its headquarters II here or not... and I’m not heartless. If you noticed, I did leave the old wonderbread building.

I also didn’t mean to demolish the power station... let’s leave that and demolish the remaining sleazy motels west of southerlands instead. But then for phase two we can build a new nuclear power plant out by Dougway and rip that nasty polluting piece of shit down.

Does anyone know what ever happened to the plan to clean up 600S and 500S?

I thought they were suppose to put the power lines underground, remove the bilbords, put in nicer sidewalks and clean up the adandond properties.

Haven’t heard anything about this in a while.

It's not just that our airport is close but so is our city. Denver is an extra hour of flight time and then you got to drive. Downtown SLC is just over 2 hours from Tacoma international. We are the closest non west coast city that can deliver on the requirements. The next closest is Denver and it would take double the time it would take to get to an HQ2 in SLC.

That's the biggest reason why Draper is a dumb idea for the Amazon RFP. It negates the one advantage that we have over the competition that none of them have any hope of matching.

Option 5:

Actually... could potentially work. Disregard the water systems. Would fix a first impression of our city upon arrival by car. Would also speed up timeframe for TRAX buildout downtown.

Although, if they're going to be building skyscrapers, I'd prefer Option 1 around the Little and Grand Americas.

I'm not sure that is the biggest reason Draper is a poor location. There are so many reasons it's hard to pick one as the worst.

Another plus about the drive to the airport is that there is hardly ever heavy congestion on that stretch of road. It's almost always between 8-12 minutes no matter what time of day it is. The route to Draper gets heavy congestion on a daily basis.

A proposal for SLC could be so slick if 400 S Main was the pick. So many advantages. So close to everything. Lots of transit access on site. It's on the grid, not in an awkward, undeveloped portion of the city right next to the freeway that has infrastructure deficiencies. They could have great, close panoramic views of the mountains. There is already tech office space planned for that area that Amazon could lease out. Scrounging up 25+ acres for starters, I think, is more than possible, if the right people get involved (CCRI, Holdings, County, Patrinely, possibly the Helds and the Garff family). It's really hard to imagine a reasonable person rationalizing picking the Draper site over 400 S Main.

I couldn't agree more. Also, the already proposed office on Main and 700 South could become an even larger building/set of buildings.

I can't take credit for the update, it is from my amazing contributor Mike Fife.
