The first time I saw it (back in 1994 when I moved to Vancouver), there were no trees in front of it, and I thought maybe it was an approach to some future vehicle bridge across False Creek (the water in the front).

I like it, I also like that rainbow house. It's probably in Cottage Country and was probably a mom and pop diner or store at one time. In the middle of winter places like that are nice to have dotted around the back country.

I agree. With respects to the Aquatic Centre, it is ugly in terms of how it's literally a concrete shell that serves for it's namesake purpose, though the use of trees and landscaping saves this centre from being a horrible sight along the river. With that greenery, it makes the centre have a better transition with the city and immediate area.

Yea, those kinds of cottages are nice, good little ways of making those parts of the country a bit fun. It doesn't look abandoned as well which is great.

I think mansard roofs are the worst example of a beautiful style of architecture from the past that makes for the ugliest architecture built today.

Probably not back then, but that's an unfortunate bastardization, fake construction, made popular in the modern "retro" 70s. Interestingly, mansard roofs were also a cost cutting measure, cheaper than building a masonry wall all the way up, while providing more usable space than a normal roof. Structures like the one shown above always look best after a thorough bulldozing.

really? Where the hell are they going to go? Fuck those rich asswipe owners. Calgary has got to be one of the better markets in the NHL. I fucking hate team owners that hold citizens and local governments for ransom. Those anti gubmint people south of the border often turn the other way when it comes to public money for fucking stadiums. You know, 'cause stadiums are way more important than services for citizens.

I've always hated Gary Bettman. I was so pleased to see the wind sucked out of that fucker when the Jets came home.

The NHL brought in over 4 billion dollars in revenue last year (up from 2 billion in 2012—that's a 100% increase in 4 years). I'm sure they can afford a stadium.
