Those parking lots are nasty. Looks like an American city there. Hopefully they get filled in.

Downtown Winnipeg looks like it's large enough for a city of 2 million souls. Not sure just how they're going to fill-in all these lots in the next 300 billion years...

Hamilton's is pretty spread out too, just not quite as built up.

Winnipeg grew faster than Toronto 2011-2016 and was the 10th fastest growing CMA. 2015-2016 Winnipeg grew by over 2%. If they keep growing like they have their downtown could fill in within 1-2 generations.

Winnipeg and Hamilton have such good bones it would only take a proper tower (height wise) to drastically improve the skyline. Wish Edmonton had more Winnipeg and Hamilton base but whatever, can't change the past.

A skyscraper or two would help with the skyline, but I think what Winnipeg needs the most is small-scale infill projects to fill in all the parking lots.

Hamilton too. Especially between Main and the rail line.

Great shot of the classic Mount Royal view; we can see the giant Leonard Cohen mural (20 stories high) starting to appear on the right.

Indeed, in fact it's the only way winnipeg will be able to fill up the DT. Have a bunch of 6-8 floor buildings with good street frontage and maybe add a 150m+ and it'll be perfect.

I heard about that mural but I don't know where it will be and I can't spot it on the picture. Where is it?

To the right, look in front of the new Holiday Inn tower with green lighting on the base. You'll see the white outline on the side of the building.

It's on the right not the left.

I'm always surprised to see how tall the ICE towers and now Harbourplaza complex is compared to the CBD in the view from the Islands. The last time I was this view was in 2013, when the ICE towers were fairly high but only at about 45 or so floors. I gotta go to the Islands sometime.....maybe in a few years....when Bay Park will be built out.

Interesting. Those are my 2 favourite of the set. The east end of downtown is only now starting to fill in and go taller but it has an appealing urbanity to it at street level. Those 2 photos also show the potential that exists for the downtown as this area is stitched more closely to the rest of downtown.

The new data centre and Globe & Mail HQ are just the beginning. We'll see a ton more residential, office, retail, and even institutional construction here over the next 10-15 years. It's already quite a vibrant part of the city and it's getting better each passing year. When the subway is built out this way things will really start coming together. Currently there is no subway at all; only streetcars.
