It is smoky in Regina too and we have strong SE winds, so I have no idea where this is from.

The smoke in Thunder Bay, according to Environment Canada's smoke models, is coming from Northern Ontario. The current high pressure system over us is swirling it and smoke from Manitoba, counter-clockwise into the upper plains and prairies. It's quite satisfying to watch. As the high moves eastward, Saskatchewan will see more smoke from the west enter its atmosphere and Northern Ontario will get even more of Northern Manitoba's smoke. It's amazing how many fires are going on up there, since the fire hazard is still low to moderate.

Manitoba. Three reserves are currently being evacuated. 3,700 people!
Edit: Manitoba fires would be NE.

Saskatchewan too. A few places have declared a state of emergency and people are being evacuated to PA and Saskatoon.

Google Earth. On Oculus Rift. Is awesome.

Winnipeg has been mapped out with LIDAR, so all the buildings, trees etc. are in 3D. And the Oculus is a 3D viewer, with its own Google Earth app.

Winnipeg has been in 3D in Google Earth for a while now. Even Thunder Bay and Sudbury is 3D now.

Yup. But until now I've only seen the 3D models on a 2D screen. In Oculus you view them in full 3D.

The politicians claim that their latest "megaproject" will make Winterpeg a "world class" city.

I guess Google is now claiming that Winnipeg has attained that status.
