^ & ^^ Good or bad, the point is that may be a factor in Amazon considering to setup HQ2 in Canada.

I agree, a corporation would rather be in a country that has less barriers.

Your point of view is noted.

I dont adhere to an absolute 100% protectionism view.

But we certainly have to acquire a balance.

If a country is trying to grow strong in a new industry, tariffs will protect it from foreign competitors. That gives the new industry’s companies time to develop their own competitive advantages.

Protectionism also temporarily creates jobs for domestic workers. The protection of tariffs, quotas or subsidies allows domestic companies to hire locally.

This benefit ends once other countries retaliate by erecting their own protectionism.

Its a battle for sure!

Kendall Beleshko (a Vancouver entrepreneur) has outlined the reasons he thinks Edmonton has a legit shot at the Amazon HQ2 bid

A proper and well thought out RFP is the first step - after that its a crapshoot. To me it would be a game changer for Edmonton and I would look at all options to get them here. Millions in incentives are peanuts compared to billions in investment. If the city feels it has a chance go for it.

In theory, the area east of the civic core with the blocks of vacant sites could be a suitable place to put the Amazon campus, given the amount of land available. That said, I think Edmonton has to completely reinvent its marketing if it wants to have even the faintest shot. Traditional underselling tactics won't fly.

Agree, the thing is realistically Edmonton won't get it and very likely will not even be a serious contender. However it gives the city a shot on getting creative and to stop relying on traditional selling points. Maybe then in the future the city will get some prominent companies to at least have a presence.

Indeed, if the City is savvy, even though its Amazon chances may be slight, use this process to self-evaluate and re-invent for the new economy.

Thanks for the update, looking good. Hopefully they've started pouring concrete for the residential portion on Stantec.

Does anyone know if there are any plans on what to do with the storage facility beside Ice District Tower B? As well, what going to happen to Stantec's building beside their new corporate headquarters once they move out? Could potentially be demolished and be a lot for a new tower down the road.
