Red zoning sign is up for another Broadstone apartment complex at Rio Salado and the 101, east side of the freeway on the ASU surplus property. Didn't catch the details but I think I saw something like 500 units.

I hope discounted broadstones, those are pricy units for that location, under a highway interchange and near industrial sites.

Haha I was thinking the same thing.

I like that it's filling in that location though. It will be nice to start bridging the gap between the Tempe Marketplace and the Mesa Riverview Park and shopping center. A property surplus yard is not a good use of space in a urban(ish) area.

Not sure I am thrilled about the Westin's initial rendering for Mill. I do love the height though! 225'....Also interested to see the Pier and Mirabella have already filed for building permits. Looks like the construction is not slowing down in Tempe!

It's bland, but it meets the street well on Mill, and the curb cut on 7th Street doesn't look too bad. I'm so thirsty for anything with height in Tempe that I'm not too concerned. And agree with Mirabella and Pier--North Tempe keeps rolling. Hoping now that we get something going in the stadium district.

I don't think there is a secondary tower. I think that was just a fun concept. Have you ever seen a hotel like that with two towers (outside of Vegas)?

They'd rather build a taller and wider tower than two tower hotel.

The Westin in downtown Seattle has 2 towers, coming from one large base though.

That second tower was always poised as a residential component. I thought the student housing developer who did University House still has an option for that portion? I thought they were going to be submitting another proposal after Tempe originally told them no?

Flour Mill developer is presenting to the Historic Preservation commission tomorrow on phase one of the redevelopment.

Mostly, phase one will focus on rehabilitating the "Mill" building--the smaller, square building for office use. Additionally, there will be two new one story buildings, one meeting the street for retail, and one for office lobby, as well as improvements to the 'A' mountain path and a new pedestrian path where the railroad tracks are.

Phase two seems to have changed some--they are now talking about rehabilitating the silos for a future hotel, and building a new 5 story hotel building roughly where the circular concrete pads are currently.

Yeah, phase 2 still lists a "New outdoor multi-purpose/entertainment space at northwest corner of site" (where the patch of grass is currently), but it does look like a full blown amphitheater is off the cards.

I can live with that. I've always thought an amphitheater would be way better suited at Papago (similar to Red Rocks near Denver).

Phase 1 renderings look really nice.
