They are currently building a new 44,000 square meter garage in the far north to store up to 424 buses, both diesel and CNG but the idea is to transition more to CNG over the next few years once the facility opens.

Calgary should seriously consider if it's about to jump into a technology, CNG buses, which will right off the bat is outdated.

The City of Calgary is also part of CUTRIC which is running an electric bus pilot in several Canadian cities.

With interest rates going up, electric buses may lose some of the financial advantage due to higher upfront capital costs. I'm sure they're crunching the numbers. I also think people in Calgary don't appreciate how many more net zero houses, green office buildings, and other general green/environmental infrastructure such as the compost facility Edmonton has compared to Calgary.

You should be able to see the Stoney garage from Stoney Trail and Deerfoot North by where they intersect (SW side of interchange).

Kamloops and many BC Transit cities are looking like they're going all CNG too.

Edmonton was a lot better off environmentally speaking with the electric trolley buses. Going battery powered?

CNG is a good choice for Alberta until better battery tech can be developed.

It appears at least one of the manufacturers that Edmonton was considering offers a lifetime warranty on the batteries. That plus a 500km range seems sufficient.

Notice I said environmentally speaking, not financially. Lithium mining and refining has a huge environmental impact, plus transportation costs. CNG is both local and low emission, and comes from an established supply chain.

No worse than other forms of mining. Li ion batteries are also almost totally recyclable meaning you only dig the stuff up once.

What I particularly don't like about the guy is him suggesting that normal city process led by city staffers has somehow been done in a surreptitious expedited fashion by the mayor. If you like liars as mayors, vote for BS.

I live in Braeside and these anti transit folks drive me nuts. I really cannot get my head around their objections to this project. They just seem stuck in the past. Between this and the arena I'm going to start campaigning for Nenshi.
