Looking at the RFP, one thing that I found interesting is that they want the locations, be it infill or Greenfield to be pedestrian friendly. This sounds like it wouldn't really work in and around Lehi so big plus there for SLC

Also, they do want to know where the cities rank on peak time congestion. As well as bike lanes nearby.

The more I look at it, SLC would be good and the 4th South location is optimal.

Depending on the layout, The 4th South and Main block could support 8+ million sq ft of space while still having open space, depending on the heights of the buildings. Using spaces directly East would easily complete a campus feel while also being easy access.

With the Bus, Train (Trax/Frontrunner), Highways (I-15/I-80) and Arterial streets (State, 3rd West, 7th East, etc.) there are few places in Utah that fit better than 4th South and Main.

I would think that this may extend further because of their full requirements, I don't know if there are many places that could support this to the same level as SLC. This may be homerism but it sounds like it was written for the 4th and Main location.

SLC is already on someone's Top 5 Cities list:

I think our proximity to skiing and the mountains would also be a good selling point when it comes to attracting talent.

Also: Someone started a thread about the new Amazon HQ in the "City Discussions" forum.

Per Lt. Governor Spencer Cox, state leaders are making a push for Amazon HQ2

That's good. But is this location on their radar?

I just wrote an email to the mayor's office suggesting this location be considered.

If Utah's proposal is for point of the mountain I will become depressed. 400 S Main makes too much sense.

HQ2 will never come here. Sorry, but let's be real. My money's on Austin. Austin gets the skyscrapers, we don't.

It doesn't matter what city it goes to, if it goes into any office park in any city I will fly to BYU and yell a cuss word

Also, adding to the transit advantage of 400 S Main, not only are there three light rail lines at a station on site, but there are 14 bus routes within 1 block. 7 on State Street (1 block away), 6 on 400 South (borders the site), and 1 on Main Street (borders the site). It's really a great location. Why is it still a parking lot?!

Also, I know this next thing will be a longshot, but I wish the Sheraton block could be included somehow as well. Along with 400 South Main lot, County lot just west of new DA offices, which comprise ~455,000 sq ft on their own, the Sheraton block could push that number up above 800,000, giving plenty of room for 8,000,000 sq ft of building space as well as open space.

This is more addressed at the forum staff / administrators, but why do none of the cities in the Mountain West have their own city section as opposed to being lumped into one group? I love all of you in Denver and Boise, but it can get a little bit busy trying to either reduce clutter by fitting everything into one thread or increased clutter with smaller project threads. Seattle has its own section, and yet nothing has been posted there since August... Mountain West is frequently the most-viewed section in the United States (its currently almost twice as busy as the next busiest section), but other smaller cities are often split into their own (which is still counted in the viewcount for each section). Is this just a relic from when these subforums weren't as popular? Can the administrators consider giving SLC and Denver their own sections to help split projects into their own threads and make it easier to find projects in their own archived threads rather than trying to sift through literally thousands of pages of development threads? Thanks!

I read the posts in the city discussion area.

I think the single block could easily hold 8+ million Sq Ft. The block could hold 6+ fully square Wells Fargo Buildings. It's current configuration is roughly 570,000 sq ft. Squaring it up would be close to 650,000 sq ft.

650,000 sq ft for 6 buildings is already just under 4 Million sq ft. Even with 6 buildings there would be space for plazas and such.

Now, if the buildings topped out between 30 and 50 stories each, This would give the total sq ft on the block closer to 8.5 or 9 Million sq ft depending on the configuration.

This is with wide boxes. If they went for variety without the wide walls, they could fit more buildings with various heights. This would include multiple mid block buildings as well as multiple mid block pedestrian connections.

I don't think people realize just how big the SLC blocks are and how much they could fit.

As it is a 12+ year build out, they could start with 2 30 story buildings and top 1.2 Million sq ft. Then add 2 40 Story buildings and be at 5 Million sq ft. The last 2 at 50+ stories and they are over 9 Million sq ft. Still leaving the East side of Main for potentially 3 additional buildings of unknown height and sq ft.

I know that this would really add density to the area but it could be easily done. It may be weird but just the mini-jungle effect of the density in the area is just drool-worthy.

I'm just imagining what our skyline would look like if we got the Amazon RPF and the Triad Center was built to its intended height... it would look pretty funny lol, a big U

Think Bigger

It's not exactly shovel ready but the state should offer the Salt Palace.

Rebuild the Salt Palace and a cch(fallen over skyscraper)on North Temple between redwood road and the Jordan river.

While I think it would be incredible for SLC, I think it is the pipiest of pipe dreams.

Lot's of metros will be vying for this one. I see Austin as a top choice for sure.
