If you read their RFP, they 'envision' (read: prefer?) an 'urban or downtown' campus. My question would be if they want to own the building or lease the properties- that might make a big difference. There are plenty of big sites available if they want to lease:
MetLife at 17th & spring St
Cousins/Integral TOD at Arts Center Station
Varsity area
Ivan Allen Plaza location
The Gultch
Perimeter MARTA Sandy Springs
While I think Fort McPherson would be a good site for a campus, they seem focused on attracting IT people, which don't live locally in that area. I also think the Doraville site might be a little too far removed from the city and airport to be a contender. Just my opinion.
I'm sure Reed and Deal will be tap dancing on this one.
Here are their preferences as stated in the RFP:
Core Preferences
Proximity to population center: 30 Miles
Proximity to International airport: 45 Minutes
Proximity to major highways: Not more than 1-2 Miles
Access to mass transit:
At site (Direct access to rail, train, subway/metro,bus routes)
Initial Square Foot Requirement 500,000+ Sq. Ft. Phase I (2019)
Total Square Foot Requirement Up to 8,000,000 Sq. Ft. Beyond 2027
