That might be a little too draconian for council considering that an election year is approaching

Amsterdam tea room opening a tea bar and patio in old market square.

Bodego's moving into where Pita Pit used to be.

Deer and Almond moving into the new building to go where Bodego's is today.

That's an intriguing series of changes. Which space will Amsterdam tea room take up?

So what's the story with the new building that Deer + Almond is going to occupy? Is construction starting soon?

It'll be interesting to see what ends up filling Deer + Almond's current space... that is a wonderful little building.

A great pizza place would be wonderful. If I lived in the Penthouse building, I would be annoyed that I could not go on foot for a delicious pie.

Now that you mention it, that is a little surprising.

Za's Pizza should expand to the Forks Market and replace that awful Zorba's that's been there since Oct. 1989.

I've seen lineups for Za's at Cityplace/Eaton Pl. weekday lunchhours. You don't generally get that for Zorby's.

Shitily!

Boy the Ox was great though. Nothing like a nice Hot and Sour soup at 3am.

If for some reason Bodego's doesn't move into the pita pit. The tea room will expand into there and open up a gin and whiskey bar. (I think that's what it was)

The new building is apparently taller now. Four stories I believe. Tyndal stone not curtain wall.

Speaking of that. Anyone wander by the finished building at Maryland and Westminster? An interesting interface with the public sidewalk. Will be interesting to see how it survives the winter. Window wells, loose stones, unit air conditioners right at the sidewalk. The glass balconies have also become for the AC units.

Ha ha. Stone is bad? I was happy to hear that. Better than bland, characterless curtain wall....or Hardie Board. At least with stone it can fit the neighbourhood. If designed well.

We have previously established our differences in aesthetic preferences as we know.

Tyndall stone is just a material... it all depends on how it's used.

I understand recluse's trepidation, but there are some great buildings in Winnipeg that are clad in tyndall stone, like the Legislature and the WAG. And at 4 storeys it should fit in perfectly with the overall scale of the area. This project could be a real winner.

Because there is so much of it in Winnipeg. Winnipeg...Vancouver: who could tell them apart???
