Edmonton's first UFC event boasts 2 title matches, champs and former champions
Event slated for Sept. 9; tickets go on sale to the general public Friday

With a brand-new arena and a large appetite for mixed-martial arts, Edmonton is set to host its first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event.

"I always like coming to new cities where the UFC hasn't been," said flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson. "The crowd's thirsty, the fans are thirsty and I feel like we're going to give them what they want."

The UFC announced its main events Wednesday for UFC 215, set to take place on Sept. 9 at Rogers Place. Two champions, Johnson and Amanda Nunes look to defend their titles.

Johnson will try to break the UFC record of most consecutive title defences against Ray Borg, while Nunes will fight Valentina Shevchenko for the second time to defend her bantamweight title.

Damn Canadians, we're just to nice not wanting to bother the crowd eh?
If I'm not wrong (I remember this from a few years back), the ultras at a bunch of Greek teams were banned from football stadiums for a while so they started going to basketball games instead. In Europe (and Asia), the basketball teams are mostly owned by football clubs.

For example Barcelona's basketball team is called FC Barcelona (football club Barcelona ). They even have the same jersey as the football club.

Same story with Bayern Munich's basketball team (owned by the football club).

I was in a bar in Red Deer, a city that is roughly 50% Oilers fans and 50% Flames fans, so any real Battle of Alberta fights happen here. They had the news conference on and it was a full house. When the trade was confirmed, half the room cheered while the other half sat in muted shock.

Working in a news room trying to confirm this crazy rumour that Gretzky had been traded to Los Angeles.

Of course, it turned out be false; Gretzky was sold not traded.

Red Bull Crashed Ice makes its return to Edmonton
By Kirby Bourne

After skipping the city for two seasons, Red Bull Crashed Ice will make a stop in Edmonton in 2018.

The World Championship event will take place March 9 and 10.

The downhill ice race brought over 70,000 people to downtown Edmonton for the World Championship event in 2015. It was the first time a Canadian city hosted the event outside of Quebec.

The event sees athletes race down a track made of ice and filled with drops, turns and gaps. Racers can reach speeds of over 60 km/h.

For the 2015 event in Edmonton the track was built into the River Valley, starting near the Shaw Conference Centre. There is no word yet on where the 2018 track will be built.

With half of Louise McKinney Park closed due to LRT construction, I wonder where it will be located this time?

Nudder gutsy nail-biter.

And now we have a real kick returner and an impressive run game!

Bad news? Looks like two more fallen front line soldiers. How long can this go on?

Love this move. Hope he sticks around and doesn't try for the NFL again any time soon. He's a player, that's for sure!
