Also of note is that in the SHED map, it lists the Radisson hotel as one of the Storefront Improvement Program buildings... did that already happen and it amounted to the new white lights on the parkade (that have since been removed), and a fresh coat of red paint on the awnings? If so, what a horrible misuse of that money.
Just parkade entrance I believe

Too bad that render doesn't also include the two towers the church is planning to build on their site. Would have been nice to see that whole concept finished out.

Anyone know if the Chipman family/Longboat are either officially or quietly helping the church out with their plans? I would imagine they could either do it as a consultant or as a funder via tax donations.

^ I'd be surprised if they weren't involved in some way with that project... after all, the Chipman family is a pretty big wheel in the local Catholic universe. Just look at the new Catholic school in Point Douglas that is pretty much a Chipman undertaking.

Funny how many trees there are in that rendering that don't actually exist

The Delta hotel has also apparently been demolished for a lifeless concrete plaza

Maybe/hopefully it's an upcoming project for next year. Because if it already happened - it's worse. And I'm sorry but that money should not be going to multi-million dollar companies that can afford to, and should be, keeping their buildings clean and up to date anyway. It should be going to small/independent landlords and business owners where the $15k can actually make a big difference... that'd barely (if even) cover the cost of cleaning the concrete on the Radisson. Or at the very least, it should have to go to more impactful upgrades... Not sure if the RBC Building used this program, but if it did - that'd be a lot more worth it to me... looks incredible.

Oh good, now I can get a nice rib-eye downtown.

I usually walk the twenty minutes to St. B and visit the bakery on Tache and Boucher Bouche. The Forks is closer but I like St. Boniface.

TNS is growing like a weed or a vine up the side of a concrete building. It's impressive now.

I thought the hotel condo towers were to be 27 stories and 17 stories. Because those two don't look to be close to 27 stories.
I'm not talking about the ones under construction. The hotel / condo project that was announced to be starting next year.

22 story hotel and 17 story condo/apartment if you include the 4 story podium

I think they will be similar in height to alt hotel and glass house when said and done

60 - 80 meters

That is my thinking too. The Chipman family gets a tax break for their involvement with the Catholic church project, gets to influence the project so its complimentary to what they are doing at TNS and as a bonus they develop out the rest of the block so someone else doesn't come and make and offer to take over the section from the church. Definitely a smart move on their part. They could even do it PPP style which Longboat helping front the costs and recovery their upfront costs over many years.

^ Yeah, I think this project could ultimately be consistent with the Chipmans' interests, and they probably have ways of helping the Archdiocese advance it. I get what vike is saying but if the Chipmans are involved I'm not sure that I'd file it in the same category as Dreamscape.

It seems lately that anything the Chipmans want to do pretty much has been going. It may take a while but I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually went ahead. That being said, the church property isn't in bad shape already so or can wait a bit. I'm hoping that the big lots nearby get filled first.

Considering the magnitude of TNS and how Chipman just tossed this at, I'm always wondering what's next? I think there will be something again from this group. Can't see them stopping at this.

Just pure speculation, but the Richardsons were partly involved in this as well, I wonder if they have something in the works.

Good, all the power to them - not many other people ponying up the bucks for development like this here.

In talks I've had with them - they're definitely interested in doing more, but obviously there needs to be a market. They're smart people, and will only do something if it makes business sense.

They're building the new research centre or whatever that TV's been involved with.

but the chipman involvement is a fabrication of this forum....maybe he is behind dreamscape too.

Do you really think if this was a longboat project it would have been released the way it was?...I know the church guys....they are cowboys.

Fair enough, if you tell me they're not involved then I'll take your word for it. But it wasn't really that preposterous a notion given that a) they're developing the adjacent property (putting them in a place where they stand to potentially gain by being in a position to influence this other development) and b) they're heavily involved with the Catholic church.
