Water Street could become pedestrian only between Carrall and Cordova.

Oh jeez, they need to get real.

Reconciliation through enabling sales of souvenir trinkets? Thing is everyone thinks of Gastown as it is right now, awash in cruise ship passengers and sunshine, and not how it is the other eight months of the year.

Lol, soon they should start reconciliation for Canadians who were chased out of their neighborhoods because of real estate prices in the last few years.

I can see closing Water St to cars in the evenings and maybe weekends in summer, but to do it all time seems a stretch. Heck part of the report for the viaducts coming down was that water had some spare capacity to absorb some of the displaced traffic. Seems like a slight of hand to use the data to serve your goals and then change the data.

Isn't there a giant multi-story parkade owned by the City of Vancouver (Easypark) on Water Street?

That lot has an entrance off Cordova that has ramps over Blood alley connecting it to the lot on Water street.

This is great news, and not too surprising.

This section of Water Street is of course the most obvious candidate for a permanent pedestrianization of any street downtown.

I've had guests coming to the city multiple times saying that it ought to be pedestrian-only. Glad to see that it is on it's way, and that the AAA network may one day close the loop to connect to the seawall at the convention centre.

Went by Tsiu Hang Village yesterday and noticed the DP application sign is no longer. Does anyone know what happened to this proposal?

There's nothing in the city's website either noting it being withdrawn.

The proposed Gastown pedestrian zone is also a critical section of any downtown streetcar network. See the image below for a proposed streetcar map from around the time of the Olympic demonstration line. It would connect directly to Arbutus line. I'm sure it will happen at some point but there's no use for the city to make noise about this until after the Broadway Skytrain extension, which will occupy the better part of the next decade.

that plan dates back before the Olympics. they have been setting that network up since the 90s. when Vision came in they actually cancelled/delayed it.

That's a nice proposal. They indicate on their website that the building will be in Coal Harbour, so I take it that it will be built somewhere near Georgia St and Denman.

Wood details like this need to be added to more new all white or grey buildings, especially along the Cambie corridor. It really helps to warm up the architecture.

I don't see any spandrel (metal/glass panels covering areas of the facade ) This is a great addition to the area.

Is this going on the site where that old house with the 70's facade is or that ugly 90's mustard building? The site where Ciao Bella was doesn't seem big enough. (though looking again it does have a parking lot at the back to incorporate too)

yes, nice looking building but, as a resident of the area, my only reticence is that its replacing a whole string of great restaurants that really give a lot of pleasure to the neighbourhood...I wouldn't want to see the new (and undoubtadly more expensive) cru's given over to yet more tim hortons and shoppers drug marts ...this si huge problem in vancouver

That is so true. We always under replace retail spaces, resulting in high rents that the few chain companies can afford. Every time we demo shops or restaurants, we should replace them with at least 3 times the number of stores. Sure, the usual suspects like shoppers or A&W will come but there is only a handful they can fill. The rest will be taken up by the exisitng businesses and other "moms and pops".
