Maybe Ted Turner will make a big donation to GSU and it will be called Turner Stadium.

They put up signs for leasing for the building in the lower right corner (looks like 3 stories located on the old Lexus lot) this past week. Also, PSG construction has set up a site office in one of the old retail spaces and a couple dumpsters are onsite along GA Avenue. GSU has already done more in 9 months then the Braves/Fulco Stadium Authority did since 1997.

I'm talking with Colliers next week regarding restaurant space availability so will update on any news I hear on construction.

The rendering above looks like a highrise is across the street from the hotel past the Olympic Rings where the driver's license office was located. Is that now part of the development also? Anyone know?

Does anyone know what's happening here at the old mid-century gas station building in South L5Ps? Have always loved that building. It's been closed for a long time, but used to be the laundromat. They're doing all sorts of work there, doesn't look like they're not demo'ing but stripping the building down for maybe a possible renovation. Always thought that would be a great restaurant building. Can't find anything online though.

ATL sure looked good last night on ABC for the FSU-Alabama game!! And, MBS looks amazing when lit up. Guessing they can adjust colors for different events, but the red looked very sharp..and lots of nice mentions by the commentators in playing up the new facility.

Random question - I was a bit surprised to find the Mercedes Benz corporate HQ has not begun construction. I'm assuming the plan is still for MB to move here - don't they need to start on the campus very, very soon to make 2019?

It's very underwhelming/suburban so it's easy to miss.

It is really best seen as a video. Try viewing here: http://www.ajc.com/news/local-govt--poli...mer-turner-field/p0uB9yskUCNFQMoOAz0RIN/

The actual plans for the site they are showing are not much different in that render than this gorgeous one:

Yes, I think I prefer the original concept in the first rendering ( the one with the blimp).
The original concept seemed to be creating more of its own "sense of place"... a place that exists on its own merits like a southern version of Atlantic Station.
It also looks like a southern extension of downtown in the rendering just looking at the density. Almost appears to be a small city with the makings of a mini Midtown of Buckhead.
Midtown has the arts and a huge park…Buckhead has Finance and Luxury shopping…this place has huge sports facilities, which I guess is just like the new Braves development in the end.
Why do good ideas always get "Watered-Down" in the end.
Oh well.

Renderings like this are suggestive of a "full" build-out that's sensitive to the scale/density of the surrounding neighborhoods. They're meant to create a vision for the potential but never reflect the reality. And let's be honest the plethora of green roofs in rendorings is a ridiculous assumption to make unless it was mandated by zoning/codes.

Besides green roofs and some parcels that still need to be filled in, what exactly do you see that makes you think this video shows a "watered down" version?

Besides the corporate tower at the North end of the property, I only see 7 story max buildings, which look to be cement parking podium + 5 story stick frame on top construction. I counted around 30 buildings that were 10+ story on the old proposal. I also liked the consistent white facade on all the buildings. I'm sure the current proposal is more realistic given the market conditions for the area.

Not that I'm a fan of parking lots, but exactly how are all of the people that come to watch the Panthers play football supposed to get there? None of those buildings look like parking decks, and I can't think of any lots, off of the top of my head, that could be used as satellite lots with shuttles running between them. It does look like there is light rail running up and down Capital Ave. Does it connect to the GSU MARTA station? Even if that is what gets built, do they really expect everyone to take MARTA?
