No 9 is a turd? Surely we aren't talking about the same building. The detailing is fantastic and it keeps the PoMo well restrained rather than turning into a concrete vertical turd like most precast buildings. The precast is only there to cover up the columns and floor slabs. Everything else is just glass or fancy balcony railings.

You're both talking about this, right?

That thing is not winning any awards, and only looks OK when you measure it against real travesties like Grand Plaza.

The detailing is actually nice. The massing, however, is not. And it has gotten worse with the floor height increases. It just looks awkward. And the balconies. Ugh. The downfall of so many buildings.

Balconies are fine when they are an integral part of the architectural form of the building. Aqua is a great recent example. I see many around London (e.g., Baltimore Wharf). This is not one.

Balconies are great for residents (in theory; in practice they're often quite useless), but they're usually a tragedy for the commons.

if people choose not to utilize theirs thats their loss. would never in a million years consider living in a multi unit building without one. Apologies if it offends your delicate aesthetic sensibilities

Yeah - I remember both of these now Anyway, I don't know why anybody would think that Griffin wouldn't go for it. Kind of a weird statement if you ask me.

I have some friends in Skybridge, and their balcony feels like an open, very exposed area so they never use theirs. It definitely depends on the design of the building as to how much the balcony will be used.

most I see are used for storage... including my neighbors and it's very white trash looking. We also have a semi-shared roof deck that everyone spent $1,000's buying furniture for, now that also have become a storage area.

Curtain wall reminds me a little bit of Trump Tower. In a good way.

It's looking pretty nice, I must admit. Would be much nicer if it were set across from Prentice in that empty lot across the street.

This may be the embedded-in-precast (not sure) but I like the detail.

The bottom looks like the top - continuity ?

Forshadowing (I think this one has been demo'd in the past week)
