Denman place is quite interesting, sad to see it's quirky nature slowly fading, still remember going down the escalators at the movie theatre and interrupting two teen coworkers doing the nasty by the popcorn LOL

Ron.
Good riddance, I want to Denman Fitness for 8 years, it's was always in need of repair, dirty and poorly managed. Many members have recently made the move to Anytime Fitness across the street. I moved to Club 21 at the Convention Centre years ago and never looked back.

A nice retail building that was built in 2001 in my neighbourhood just sold at an insane price that can only mean redevelopment. That blew my mind. Taylor's Crossing:

The other factor would have been ownership.
At the time of redevelopment, it was owned by Safeway's real estate subsidiary, which would not have been in the business of building apartments or condos.

It was later sold - can't recall to whom (not sure it was part of the Sobey's / Empire REIT divestiture)

Check out this new mall in Toronto's downtown neighbourhood of Yonge/Bloor: 8 levels of retail! Tower on top will also be T.O.'s tallest.

https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/news/to...281/?ref=http://www.theglobeandmail.com&

Also, a very interesting tour of the retail neighbourhood by retail-insider of that neighbourhood:

We should have something like that in Vancouver as well.

Maybe in Metro Van but certainly not in CoV...

Wow, so tall even the office big-size monitor can't contain it whole. Need to scroll top-down to view the beauty. LOL.

Yeah, let's have one of these in Metrotown, Brentwood or Surrey Central, complete with the mall element, of course!

I prefer shopping on sunny streets to darkened corridors but maybe that’s just me. If you want to live in a city like Toronto, why don’t you? Vancouver has its own identity, fostered by these policies.

When did I ever say I wanted to live in a city like Toronto? But there are a lot of good things that Toronto has done that we could also do here. Why do all retail streets here have to look the same? and maybe those policies that you speak of restrict vancouvers identity, not foster it.

Don't be so narrow minded. Obviously lots of people like shopping on "darkened corridors"

Yes, exactly. Bloor Street and Fifth Avenue are definitely corridors with tall buildings, yet nobody squawks about that. Trying to shake Vancouver's cutesville image is like trying to cure acne.

That's right. Also, I was walking down Alberni today and it was great and it has tall buildings along most of it's stretch. Certainly didn't feel dark

Also it's not sunny year round. Those sunny streets will be darkened corridors for part of the year unless we do something like try to build a biodome over the city.

Currently in Muji. Short line but to have to wait to get in is not the best thing. If it's gonna be like this most of the time they should probably get their own stand alone structure like IKEA to handle more people with more space available.

I'm sure the Metrotown location will calm down once the Robson location opens later this year.
