I'm always nervous about posting any proposals from Moncton in the Canada section (aside from the events centre), but here goes.

Proposal for a new hotel on East Main Street & Harper Lane. The hotel franchise has not yet been disclosed.

Looks like a pretty standard suburban hotel. The top part and the glass section on the front are the nicest features. I assume the rest will be stucco? What's the tallest building in Moncton? Will this be among them?

Well, I mean, what type of reaction would you expect to that rendering? Best case scenario is probably "begrudging acknowledgment that these types of hotels are built in suburban areas all over Canada."

Let's not leave out that these are also built in urban areas too.

I'm interested in seeing the proposals themselves... conversely, I have little interest in reading anyone's takes on them. So to that extent I'm glad that MonctonRad posted it.

Hmm.... No mention of stucco. It lists spandrel for the lighter grey areas which is interesting cause the rendering does not look like spandrel. I like that it's brick in the other sections and not stucco. If it were built in Calgary it would be stucco.

Not trying to discourage MonctonRad from posting renderings. I like seeing what is being proposed in other city's as well (especially cities other than Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, etc). And when those renderings suggest a high quality development, they should be (and I think are) celebrated (especially when they are being proposed in a smaller marked). However, when such renderings suggest a pretty run-of-the-mill development (or even a shit development), I don't think anyone should be surprised or disappointed by a lukewarm reception (frankly, it would be pretty patronizing if it were any other way.)

^ No one should feel apprehensive about posting renderings in this thread. I doubt I'm alone in preferring posts that contain actual renderings of projects (whether beautiful or ugly) as opposed to the current competition to see who can come up with the pithiest insults for whatever appears here.

I will gladly triple down on my response to that Saskatchewan proposal!

I'm sorry but I'm not going to fawn over or seriously discuss a proposal that by all accounts is a cash grab by an inexperienced developer to destroy a beautiful church and replace it with that abomination.

My reaction is that i think it's great that the economy is doing well enough to support new development. Particularly large (for the region) multi-story buildings.

And honestly, I don't think it's any uglier than similar-sized buildings in places like Scarborough, Longueuil, and East York, despite having a fraction of the population.

I'd actually say it's a lot nicer than most of what Scarborough, East York or Longueil have to offer .... hopefully Moncton can set the bar higher than that. I don't mind it actually.. nicer than most similar scaled hotel designs, albeit marginally

That Moncton hotel proposal doesn't look that bad at all....seems like a higher quality version of something from Fredericton or Oshawa judging by the elevations and listed materials.

I take some exception to this because I try to post whenever I think there's something worth posting. And I posted this stinker right where it belonged -- in the ugly thread.
