The old Rossdale power station, now decommissioned and empty awaiting incorporation into a new/future riverside cultural/arts/heritage/entertainment area.

Thanks! Back in the days when they used to spend money on good architecture for our infrastructure buildings. Something they don't do enough of any more.

I mean, it's not like there wouldn't be widespread public outrage at taxpayer funds being spent on cosmetic purposes, especially when this type of thing is no longer built in areas where people live.

They may not still build generation stations in urban cores, I'm not just talking about them but things like transfer stations, fire halls, schools, etc. I do agree it is due to the fact the public would cry out saying it's a waste of funds. I just find it sad that people don't seem to care about building these structures to improve the aesthetic quality of neighborhoods like they used to.

edit: I also wanted to say nice picture posted by Martin Mtl.

Those are not Edmonton's most flattering angles.

It's a rare angle for sure, 99% of the skyline shots we see of Edmonton are taken from the river valley or university areas. I like this view, though... it's clearly not the postcard skyline shot, but it's a more honest depiction of Edmonton's sometimes gritty urban fabric. It's a gorgeous photo.

Perhaps but we (Toronto) have huge swaths of our city that look far worse than that. Yesterday I walked that stretch of Yonge Street in North York (Sheppard to Finch) and it's far worse than that street in Edmonton. That Edmonton street isn't an urban paradise but looks far more pleasant to walk along.

I enjoyed that photo too. You can see the potential in it.
