If I had to wager on this project, I'd put my money on the "don't pass" line. Four years after this thread started and only an empty lot to look at. I hope I'm wrong, but I really doubt this project gets off the ground at this point.

We can debate all we want, but the bottom line is that there is no real action by the developer. That's a bad sign.

Here's to hoping this doesn't turn into Broad Street's version of a Disney Hole.

It would be nice to get a building taller than City Hall this far south, or even east of Broad, but realistically, this is just not going to happen. We'll probably see another Cambria Hotel like building pop up on this site, rather than something memorable like this.

Well... looks like decisions on state funds for projects is delayed again because of the yearly budget stalemate from our wonderful state government. That of course, delays this project yet again... not that any of us thought this project would receive state funding anyway!

Hate to beat a dead horse but this mother fucker is done . Buster Brown shoe store has a better shot at being built at this

Ragging on the state government for being inefficient is fair in the abstract, but the blame for this project not moving forward belongs 100% on the developer. Even if there was a budget, there isn't going to be anywhere near the funds that were "anticipated," by the builder - nor should there be IMHO.

I feel as if anything, the odds of this getting done are HIGHER than ever due to this week's events (Chinatown Eastern Tower and 1001 S Broad moving forward). Those are two "pie in the sky" projects that seem to be getting very close to being built. And between Riverside and One Ardmore, you'd think Dranoff could easily come up with the funds himself for this project. Just because it didn't receive federal funding doesn't mean it won't be built. I'm with the people saying that Dranoff was just trying to get any help he could here and isn't necessarily relying on that grant.
I say that by this time 2018 there will at least be shovels in the ground.

What's the connection between Bart's S Broad St. dream and getting this project moving? The one doesn't effect the other.

One of the top rules in the developers handbook is that the developer supplies ideas and management and maybe the actual land/ground/dirt, but you try to avoid putting up much or any of the funding for the project. Its definitely a world where you want to be playing with other peoples money, not your own. So, his success with other projects might help him acquire financing, but I doubt that he would spend his own cash/profits from other jobs. Plus, if he still really thinks he can get $19M FREE from the State, why not wait? Personally I and others think this fantasy of receiving $19M from the State is just a way of blowing smoke to publically cover over other problems this project is having. Which is too bad, this would be a great addition to the City.

Since we are all commenting on this.. I really don't know if an SLS is appropriate next to the broad street ministry. I wish they could move the ministry further down broad to be honest, but I do not know if that will ever happen.

Well said. State government often displays ineptitude but in this case you can't really blame them too much imo.

Maybe not the best word choice, but SLS hotels are ultra luxury "destination" type hotels. I have friends that have really enjoyed the Miami one. The Broad Street Ministry is a nice service for the homeless, but they really make a mess in front of the building and congregate outside basically all day. It doesn't exactly scream destination location.

Having said that above, then the SLS maybe better suited for Rittenhouse or Washington Sq West. Dunno???

don't think so, Ave of the Arts needs a luxury mixed use building like this. Rittenhouse and Wash Sq already have buildings like this.
Folks, I would not count this project out just yet.

I do think so. W is being built now on Broad and Walnut, a few blocks up from Broad and Spruce where SLS is proposed. W Hotel is a luxury hotel. 4 Seasons, another lux hotel will be on top of CTC and should open in 2018, 10 or so blocks away from SLS. So, time will tell if this is really dead or not, but many others, including myself have opined that this is looking like a long shot because of financing and lack of State money and possibly saturation of luxury hotel rooms that Philly can support.

Folks, I would not count this project out just yet.

That, and as we learned with 1911 Walnut, Rittenhouse NIMBYs aren't very up on buildings of this height.

I'd like to believe that the SLS will be built, but it seems like all odds are against it. It wouldn't bet on it at all.
