Thanks for sharing! Looks like it could be a cattle counter at the edge of a field, lol.

In a couple of years it will look like a dilapidated shack.

The combination of aluminum and glass makes me think not, but time will tell. Then again it only needs to last a couple years as the line will be shut down then for Stage 2.

Based on the photo, not so good for wheelchairs.
And a BIG bike parking, just large enough for 3 bikes.

There are larger/wider gates for wheelchairs to get through with the card readers at a lower height.

In that photo of Carling station they are in the background because that's where the elevator is. The ones in the foreground lead to the stairs.

The gates closest to you in the photo lead to stairs, so not very useful for those in a wheelchair. It is the gates at the other end that lead to the elevator. It is hard to see but it looks like they are wider. I am sure they had to conform to AODA standards.

I count room for 5 bikes, but still, I agree it isn't a lot of space. Then again, only 1 bike was parked in it at the time the picture was taken, so that could be an indication of the demand. One nice thing about the O-Train is you can bring your bike on it, so many may not need parking at the station.

Good Day.... a Stage 2 pre-contract outage.

per OC-T website : Alert: O-Train Trillium Line service temporarily replaced by Route 107 (Oct. 1, 15, 22) - October 1, 2017

http://www.octranspo.com/updates/news/200692

The O-Train Trillium Line will be temporarily replaced by bus Route 107 on three Sunday mornings in October - Sunday, October 1, Sunday, October 15 and Sunday, October 22 - to allow for site inspections in preparation for future service expansion.

Route 107 will operate every 15 minutes during this period and the buses will travel parallel to the O-Train routing between Bayview and South Keys Stations, with limited stops along the way.

Additional Citation Ottawa MetroNews :

O-Train Service suspended on coming Sundays
Three suspensions necessary for proposed expansion.

http://www.metronews.ca/news/ottawa/2017/09/28/o-train-service-suspended-on-coming-sundays.html

O-Train service will be coming off the track for three Sundays this month, to help the city move ahead with the planned expansion.

This coming Sunday, as well as Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, the train will be shut down between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to allow inspections by contractors looking to build the proposed expansion.

Three contractors have been shortlisted to bid on an expansion of the Trillium Line, which includes both the expansion and the maintenance of the existing O-Train line.

During the shutdowns, Route 107 buses will be in place to pick up the slack running between Bayview Station and South Keys Station every 15 minutes.

FYI.

City fined after train blows through signal again

Jon Willing, Ottawa Citizen
Published on: October 13, 2017 | Last Updated: October 13, 2017 5:08 PM EDT

The City of Ottawa has been fined $42,708.06 because a Trillium Line train blew a signal last May — not the first time it has happened.

Transportation general manager John Manconi told council in a memo on Friday that on May 3, a train was travelling at a low speed as it approached a passing track. It rolled through a red signal after a train travelling in the opposite direction had already passed, the memo said.

The train system’s automated protection system kicked in and brought the train to a stop.

“At no time was the safety of passengers or others at risk,” Manconi writes in the memo.

OC Transpo and Transport Canada launched an investigation. The Transportation Safety Board was also told about the incident.

The fine came from Transport Canada, which Manconi said cited four similar incidents dating back to 2015. An investigation happened each time.

Transpo had a fairly good track record on the Trillium Line until November 2015. There were two reports of trains going through signals at the end of that year, resulting in council receiving a similar memo from city management.

Safety is Transpo’s top priority, Manconi told council this time around, explaining that incidents like this are a “deviation” from rail operating rules.

According to Manconi, train operators have encountered signals 1.3 million times since the passing tracks were installed in March 2015.

The passing tracks were part of the $60-million Trillium Line expansion, which included new trains and improvements to the signal system.

The Trillium Line is poised to undergo another major expansion as part of the Stage 2 project, adding seven stations and extending track 12 kilometres to Riverside South.

Good Day...... New Fare Gates !

per OC-Transpo website : Customer testing of new fare gates and ticket machines

http://www.octranspo.com/tickets-and-passes/customer_testing_of_new_fare_gates_and_ticket_machines

Quote:

Customers who use the O-Train Trillium Line or catch a bus at Greenboro Station will soon be able to try out the new ticket machines and fare gates and tell us what they think of their experience.

Because this is the same equipment that will be in place along the Confederation Line in 2018, your input will help us work out any issues and make sure we are Ready for Rail.

Testing period
Testing will start in November 2017:

Station Testing start date
Carling Wednesday, Nov. 1
Carleton Friday, Nov. 3
Confederation Monday, Nov. 6
Greenboro Wednesday, Nov. 8
Bayview Not part of this test.
Bayview will have a combined fare gate area for both O-Train lines when the Confederation Line opens in 2018.

How to use fare gates
Hand tapping a Presto card at a fare gate
Simply tap or scan your fare to get through the gates.

You can pay for your trip with a smartcard (Presto, U-Pass or STO Multi) or a bus transfer, single-ride ticket or DayPass.

Once you tap or scan at the fare gate, you don't need to tap again on the bus.

Single-ride tickets are available at the new ticket machines located just outside the fare gate.

Registered Para Transpo customers will now have to pay a fare to access O-Train service.

Staff will be on site to help you out and answer all your questions anytime the O-Train is in service.

To exit the station, just walk through and the fare gate will open automatically.

How to get through the fare gates without machine-readable fare

During the testing phase, all customers will be able to get through the fare gates. New digital options will be available in the coming months. Until then, please proceed in the following way:

Customer During testing
Children 0-5 Get a free ticket from the ticket machine
CNIB registrants You will receive a smartcard. If you don't have a smartcard yet,
show your CNIB card to an on-site staff member who will let you through the gates
Event tickets with free OC Transpo service Show your event ticket to a staff member who will let you through the gates
Regional transit pass holders Show your pass to a staff member who will let you through the gates
Customers using an STO paper transfer Show your transfer to a staff member who will let you through the gates
Free service for seniors on Wednesdays Tap your Presto card; no fare will be deducted if you have a senior discount.
Or show your proof of age to a staff member who will let you through the gates

How to use the ticket machines
New ticket machine
During the testing period, you will be able to use the ticket machines to easily buy a single-ride ticket, a DayPass or load your Presto Card to use right away.

You can pay with cash, debit, or credit. Note that the ticket machines cannot currently accept new $10-bills. We are working with the vendor to find a solution to this issue.

You can also use the ticket machine to buy and load a new Presto card, or check the status and balance on your current card.

Some Presto services are not available on the ticket machines:
.....
The machines’ live video chat option will not be available during testing but OC Transpo staff will be on-site anytime the station is in service to help.

UnQuote.

Given that for "Event tickets with free OC Transpo service" you just "Show your event ticket to a staff member who will let you through the gates" I don't think it will be much of an issue. Besides, I doubt if many going to TD Place use the O-Train as it doesn't go in the right direction.

OC Transpo will start testing fare gates next month
The gate system will be used at all LRT stations when the new line opens next year

By: Kieran Delamont, Metro
Published on Wed Oct 25 2017

The city will begin testing its fare gate system on the O-Train Trillium Line on November 1, according to a memo sent to members of council by transit boss John Manconi.

The fare gates at Carling station will be operational as of November 1, followed by Carleton, Confederation and Greenboro stations, which will be activated on November 3, 6 and 8, respectively.

Bayview Station, which will be the transfer point between the Trillium and Confederation Lines once the latter opens, will not have fare gates installed at this time.

The testing is another step as OC Transpo prepares for the launch of the Confederation Line at some point in 2018. The fare gates will allow people to pay to get into the LRT system and transfer within it, rather than requiring transfers or re-tapping your Presto card for transfers within LRT stations.

Riders will still be able to buy single-fare tickets, but will purchase them and use them to then pass through the fare gates.

“The phased testing approach will allow customers a chance to get to know the new fare gate and ticket machine functions in a real-life, high-traffic environment, and will allow OC Transpo an opportunity to work out any issues that may arise,” said Manconi in the memo.

OC Transpo staff will be on hand to help riders navigate the new system when the gates go live.

OC Transpo crews were out installing Mooney's Bay signs at Confederation this morning, and the stop announcement on the train is already calling it that. Buses will be updated at the service change.

There is new "Line 2" signage at the other train stations.

I saw a crew putting up a "B" (platform) sign at the Heron / Bronson bus stop (across the road from Confed-- I mean Mooney's Bay). I guess the bus stops in that area will now collectively be known as "Mooney's Bay Station"?

I noticed that as well - the bus NSAS has always always called the eastbound stop as Confederation Station, though possibly in addition to another name. I can't recall what it says in the westbound direction, possibly Heron/Bronson.

The addition of identifiers brings the station into line with other stations like Heron. The odd thing is that usually, OC identifies each platform with a number, then each stop with a letter. For example, Billings Bridge has four platforms, 1-4, and platforms 3 and 4 each have 3 stops, 3A, 3B, 3C, etc. New Hurdman has only one platform, so stops are only lettered. In this case though, the system is reversed, with each platform (side of the road) getting a different letter.

They mentioned in the "transforming the service" presentations they are switching to a letter only system for all new stations regardless of platforms. The new Moodie station has stops A to E even though there are 4 platforms. I think they felt the numbers didn't mean anything to the average users

Interesting - well this makes sense. London, England uses a similar system where each "cluster" of bus stops in an area are lettered, this seems like a riff on that.

12 minute Trillium Line schedule is useless for transfer purposes to local buses.

Every time I use the Trillium Line, I seem to have a bad experience. Today, the Trillium Line was on schedule but arrived at Greenboro 1 minute after my local bus had departed. It is impossible to coordinate the Trillium Line running on a 12 minute schedule with local buses running on a 30 minute schedule. What works for one departure each hour, does not work for the other departure. For the user, it is almost impossible to determine when you need to depart in order to make proper connections. It appears that attempts to deliver 10 minute frequency have been abandoned for the time being.

I won't go into how useful the system is, but it should be noted (again) that there is no schedule. The trains operate as quickly as they can, usually every 10-12 minutes.

It's been a long time since I've had to take a local bus on the end, but I never had luck in making a connection to a 30 minute local bus. I spent a lot of time waiting around Place D'Orleans station in my teens having just got off the 95 to see my local bus pull away. Now I always park-and-ride, and never ride the local. I can't believe the city thinks it would be a good idea to get rid of the Greenboro park-and-ride. Local buses are horribly inconvenient.
