Georgia lawmakers resurrect multi-modal passenger terminal project

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...ers-resurrect-multi-modal-passenger.html
Quote:
The timing is right for bringing back a proposal to build a multi-modal passenger terminal (MMPT) in metro Atlanta, the chairman of the Georgia Senate's Transportation Committee said Thursday.

"We're in great financial position. We've got a lot of growth coming," Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta, told reporters following a meeting of his committee to talk about a project that has been on the back burner for years. "If we have the political will and the political courage, we can work with our partners and come up with a plan that works for everybody."

Most of Thursday's discussion focused on the feasibility of building a terminal for passenger trains and buses on a 119-acre site in downtown Atlanta known as the "Gulch."

Our state leaders irritate me. So now you want to bring the MMPT back up just as other developments are coming to fruition in the vicinity. And they keep talking about it as a development opportunity when first and foremost it should be about mobility/transit. Where are the trains? Why don't you finally wrangle the metro counties together to figure out a metro-wide commuter rail system that would use the MMPT? I have little confidence that this won't end up as just a talking point for the next few weeks, only to not be thought about for the next decade.

And lol at the one guy from the boonies saying this should be built in Doraville.

NEW APPLICATION: SCAD Student Housing

Quote:
New construction of a 14-story residence hall located on the SCAD Atlanta campus, directly west of SCAD’s existing Spring House and south of the main academic building at 1600 Peachtree Street. The building program includes a mix of residential units for students, providing 592 total student beds, as well as lounge and event space, Residence Life office space, and a coffee bar, in addition to laundry rooms and service and mechanical space. The proposed building will allow Spring House to be demolished and that property made ready for future development. The project includes pedestrian amenities along the building site, and also provides for other upgrades off-site in order to provide better connectivity to the main SCAD building. Although the project will feature a drop-off area for cars and a service drive and parking, all student parking will be located in the existing SCAD parking deck at 1600 Peachtree.
This sounds as though they have scrapped the earlier plan for SCAD Spring House.

Selig plans billion-dollar project on Upper Westside

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...ans-billion-dollar-project-on-upper.html

Quote:
Selig Enterprises Inc. is planning a massive mixed-use project along Chattahoochee Avenue where the city’s gritty industrial past is making way for trendy restaurants, new housing and loft offices.

Known as "The Works at Chattahoochee" the project will represent a billion-dollar investment over the next decade and could mark the largest of its kind for the area since Atlantic Station.

Its certainly the biggest bet so far on Atlanta's emerging Upper Westside, an area known for low-rise brick warehouses where West Midtown and South Buckhead begin to merge. The area is benefiting from its proximity to Georgia Tech and planned future connections to the 22-mile Atlanta Beltline.

Selig Development, a relatively new division of the 100-year old company, is launching the adaptive re-use of warehouses and new development on 80 acres.

The Works will be amix of restaurants and creative office space.

New city llc and lamb properties have O4W Georgia power site under contract. New city has Irwin behind it who helped with PCM and currently 725 Ponce.

“This is the last significant tract of land in the neighborhood, and our goal is to integrate this amazing property seamlessly into the neighborhood by blending public and private spaces together to create a truly urban walkable district.”

I'm interested in what they have planned. What is shown in that rendering is no where near a $1 billion investment.

With 1.5 million square feet (600,000 square feet of office, 500,000 square feet of retail, 500 residences, 200-key boutique hotel, 13 acres of greenspace) I'm sure it easily can be $1 billion.

I am just celebrating that it isn't Fuqua or some other less than urban minded developer.

Correct. The rendering shows about 100,000 square feet of retail. That's why I asked the question. I doubt it will all be adaptive reuse.

Correct. The article states that there will also be new development.

Me too! When reading the article I nearly forgot who New City was and starting looking up their business partners... Whoops! I am really excited. Toss this in with the PCM expansion, 725 North, New Realm development in the Two Urban Licks warehouse, and North & Line... this section is going to be a great node in Atlanta.

Scott said Greenstone is aiming to develop its project in conjunction with a unnamed multifamily developer, who is in talks to buy the second half of the two-acre parcel independent of Greenstone. That developer plans to build a 12-story, 330-unit mid-rise apartment, he said.

Wow! I like it. I know some most would prefer something taller but I think this is a great, high density project for that site. And they say that they plan on going spec for this tower. I can't wait to find out more about the apartment project.

It felt like new proposals has slowed way down this year but all of a sudden I have been adding a lot of projects to the P&C list.

It's the parking deck for the Northside MOB currently under construction.
