It appears that they are re-facing the concrete - chipping off the top layer to expose the rebar, then applying a new layer.

It is how trains work. All high speed rail in Europe uses banked turns. The centrifugal force keeps the wheels in contact with the tracks; you don't need upstops.

And the L is going to be operating at HSR speeds? I've never seen a banked curve of any note on a heavy rail transit system.

Could we have just one more hint? I mean that spectrum is really large. Has the firm recently completed a building in Chicago, and is it just one building?

Also, did your friend say when we should be anticipating seeing the design/news about the redevelopment in the future (like in 2017, or 2018)?

I'm assuming the low rise portion will also be torn down.

The orange is toned way down on this photo to allow the detail through - a VERY orange screen.

Banking is only needed if centrifugal forces are very high. Train wheel design is pretty clever and deals with it naturally:

A very tall blank wall - to protect the hotel guests from any future flaming data center woes.

The old ABC book building has been saved and restored.

Say what you want about the stadium, but the DID move this, the one cool building left on that block.

Then what is responsible for "slow zones" for CTA trains? I'm just trying to figure out what they do to speed up transit in Chicago, because that needs to happen.

How much does moving a building like that cost?

I wonder if one could make a viable business of moving rowhouses with great bones to more desirable locations.

A Family business - Met Mr Wolfe, his sons, and a few grandsons. German Baptists IIRC, at first I thought it was really odd thing for Amish tourists, but that was just more of the family passing by on a road trip. Wish I had had more time to explore the intersection between simple 18th century lifestyle, and moving buildings.

Mr Wolfe

Some more of family - the boys are sweeping gravel off of the plates as the house inches along.
