Are they finally cleaning that thing? How did all the little spots get there? Did they just not finish a previous restoration job?

save Al's Beef

not every corner needs to be a generic 200-foot glass box of no return

Sure. But let's have an Al's Beef/Walgreens/bar/tattoo parlor/McDonalds/Dunkin on the corner instead like every corner in Chicago.

They are just doing minor repairs not an entire facade restoration. Nothing to get too excited about unfortunately. Although, the building is on the market so potentially we could see something more exciting with a new owner.

^^ Isnt that the building on S. State the city sold to be redeveloped? I thought a glassy addition was being added between the two "towers"?

^Much confusion.

Pictured building, with fresh new brick repairs in spots, is the Bankers Building at SWC Clark and Adams.

GSA—not the city—recently sold the Century and Consumers buildings at 202 and 220 South State for redevelopment.

^^^All those spots are a result of the previous tuck-pointing project. From what I recall, they're cleaning the rest of the brick as part of new ownership's investment. The building will look entirely different when they're done.

Speaking of facade repair, somebody's gotta go capture the work on that beloved brutalist monstrosity tower on UIC's campus. Big changes are ongoing.

The only positive out of UH is the view from the top floor lounge looking east. Pretty amazing. Aside from that I wish they would rip all that ugly concrete off and plate it in glass like are doing with the rest of the campus.

Blasphemer! I bet UH thinks the only positive about you is the view from your Head, but wishes it could rip all your skin off too!

Seriously University Hall is dank and I will not be friends with anyone doesn't understand this. Thank god they are fixing the one untainted piece of the original design.

Can't say to much because I don't know that much, but I've heard from a quite reliable source a rumor on who's been hired for the Tribune redevelopment.

All I'll say is that it's an architect with a completed project in Chicago, and I don't think people will be too disappointed.

That's exactly what we need; another glass box.

Thanks Solar. From afar, the structural elements appear to be painted white. Not sure if that's the final product or a coat of primer.

...That leaves with at least 100 options. Cmon Bvic, or else we'll start making guesses, starting with the letter A. Antunafish?

If it's a local firm my guess would be Adrian Smith, though Kreuck + Sexton would be a cool dark horse for this.

If not local, I'd love to see Norman Foster take a crack at it, but his Apple store technically isn't complete. Maybe OMA?

Speaking of UH, why does the east side of the building appear to be painted white on parts of it?

The entire project? Or the parking lot?

Said like a tourist - as an alum , and one who has had an office in UH, you are full of it.
