Thank you for the pictures.
IMO, the plaza there looks so much better than before: crisper and brighter. I never liked that red tiling, nor the funny metal sculpture nor the pokey entrance.

Yes, and it smacks of the ugly old white Sears façade.

Because the glass has reached the end of its useful life. Rather than address point specific failures it's being replaced en-masse.

Expect to see more of this around downtown as the 70s and 80s building boom catches up to us.

Silly question, but is the entire Pacific Centre complex officially known as CF Pacific Centre now or is it just the retail portion? I know most other Cadillac Fairview complexes that added 'CF' were primarily retail.

Just the retail.

Office branding is a bit tougher but the brain trust is working on something!

I was gonna say...

I didn't realize this was a thing that happened frequently. What about older buildings? Or is this more a symptom of more modern building methods?

Older buildings have their glazing replaced too, it's just that in older buildings the glazing systems were not curtain wall systems, it was usually just punched windows.

A lot of times you wont notice it, RBC was done nearly 10 years ago, but it was pretty noninvasive, like for like done over the nights. The decision was made to re-position 609 Granville while replacing the glazing which is why this one will be more noticeable.

That is the plan as far as I am aware.

You're right. It could get worse. However, you always seem down on Vancouver architecture in most of your posts. Some of it very understandable, some of it seems like city-bashing.

First time I've seen the stage lowered (there are pulleys on the rooftop scaffolding).
It was at the roof line an hour ago.
I wonder if they'll reclad from the bottom to the top or the top to the bottom?

Pic by me today @7:00pm.

Maybe bottom-up since it would be easier to troubleshoot any issues down there?

Top top bottom.

First 2 floors equivalent are mechanical so they get to practice on that before interrupting tenanted space.
