Some pictures I took today at the new Joyce station east station house. I think there is still another 4 weeks work to do before it can be opened, hopefully before September.

The station house is so long! This will be the main entrance once the #28/#41/#43 bus stop is moved to this side.
Looks like faregate is not installed and cabling is still in progress.


Pavement still to be rebuilt.


I couldn't figure out what this object is until I looked at the rendering diagram.

That's really the best way to describe it: it's utilitarian. It's a not-even-fully-enclosed glass box that you pass through to get to the station.

I never noticed until you pointed it out that the glass walls don't even go all the way up to the guideway.

The wooden roof at Joyce looks really nice. Actually the combination of the black and the light wood looks really slick.

For Metrotown, what is the escalator configuration (left to right from entrance)? 2 Up 2 Down, or Down-Up-Up-Down, or Up-Down-Down-Up?

I wold love to see more wood details like that on the Expo Line.

The new Metrotown entrance - from the bottom facing them, the 2 down escalators are to your left and the 2 up escalators are to your right.

I believe that is for air circulation. However in windy and rainy weather, the station house might get wet.

I like the wooden ceiling at Joyce. The same material is also used inside the station house.

I love how they throw a black theme in this station when they have been making all the others white.

29th has part of the new section painted black, I may have seen it elsewhere on the evergreen line stations too.

Reasons that come to mind:
- higher ceiling/roominess with pipes below ceiling (despite ugliness)
- easier/cheaper to access for repairs/maintenance
- cheaper to install - hangs below light fixtures rather than conflicting at same level / fewer cut-outs in wood ceiling

Took the Skytrain to Vancouver to work today from Surrey. On the way back stopped at Joyce to check out the progress. Correct me if I'm wrong but according to the sign it's only a new east station house that was constructed? The west station house will be left in its original grimy state?

I have an appointment in Vancouver today so I'll take photos of the current progress at Brighouse station. There was a development proposal sign so I have a very strong feeling they will be redeveloping that shopping plaza. The bus loop is also on that sign.

For this project yes, the west station house will be refurbished in time.

The redevelopment looks good, better than whats currently there. Downtown feeling really developing now in Richmond.

Yeah I have to say that the current plaza there is pretty disgusting to walk through. Very outdated and neglected maintenance-wise. Like I'm cool with outdated like having 80's/90's a e s t h e t i c to it, but at least keep it from literally falling apart. Maybe they put some spaces there for a little park and ride for the station.

there will never be Canada Line Extension. Single track already prevents that.
