Maybe if you give me a detailed reason for your refund request (based on furnishing refuting scholarly evidence etc.),..you'll receive such.

What I realize is that this forum has a number of rigidly right wing thinkers who, when confronted with (what they consider left-wing) veracity/profundity, proceed to shut down intellectually. So for this guy LeftCoaster to admit the foolish position he's taking is in fact such, would mean that he would also have to consider the other seemingly more so left wing positions that I posit here, OBJECTIVELY...something that he wouldn't be caught dead doing. Hence his (right wing?) agenda here (like yours) is to try and discredit my argument (with meaningless commentary) so as to perpetrate your propaganda that what I have to say (e.g. that economic expansion cannot occur without attendant expansion in the money supply-which includes foreign investment inflows etc.-) is all nonsensical.

So instead of admitting that you're stumped by logical discourse (e.g. clear examples as to how foreign investment can increase domestic money supplies) you all duck and resort to groundless sniping remarks (which are kind of Trump-like)...LOL! You all don't need a refund you all need a class in scientific based reasoning! To intelligent forumites your ploy is transparent!

To show up your silliness answer the following questions: 1) Is it possible to have economic growth and expansion without an expansion in the national money supply? 2) Towards growing the economy can you list all the ways in which the national money supply can be increased and decreased etc..?

Answering these questions (may very well) expose both your limited knowledge on the subject at hand and your ideological bias.

Right.

Best of all in your example the money that traded hands is still foreign denominated so it hasn't affected the money supply!
.
LeftCoaster, I kind of ignored your foolish comments above but in retrospect are you really lucid?,...when and where have I said that "So the entire domestic money supply is being increased via guys buying houses in cash from their friends"??

I never asserted any such thing but rather I gave one example of how foreign investment dollars can flow into the local economy (via grassroots household/business investments). You are now being very dishonest in your arguments.

If I didn't know better, I'd think that you have a (right wing) political agenda similar to those looney real estate agents who argue that foreign monies aren't a problem in driving hyper inflation as far as Vancouver's house prices are concerned.

I'm still awaiting your response to my questions as to all the ways in which a nation's money supply is expanded.

Any more interesting articles anybody wants to talk about in our new off topic thread?

International finance/commerce and the attendant national money supply affects the entire economy and is thus a business topic (one that is ultimately relevant to the growth of Vancouver's economy/business community)!

Rosewood Hotel Georgia sells to local buyer
By Glen Korstrom | July 27, 2017, 12:35 p.m.

Vancouver’s Pacific Reach Properties has bought the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, after a previous agreement to sell the hotel fell through.

Business in Vancouver reported in March that two Hong Kong ventures, Able Shine and Magnificent Hotel Investments Ltd., planned to pay $145 million to buy the iconic 90-year-old hotel, which was renovated and reopened in 2011.

When that deal did not close, Pacific Reach Properties entered the picture and was able to close a deal to buy the hotel for an undisclosed amount.

Some of Pacific Reach Properties’ other real estate assets include the Westin Grand Vancouver, Radisson Vancouver Airport, Toronto’s Maple Leaf Quay and a number of mixed use and multi-family residential properties in Los Angeles and Phoenix, as well as commercial property in Calgary.

Banks need to maintain loan to deposit ratios that are dictated by the central bank. Having more credit worthy citizens does not mean the banks will increase their loans and subsequent money multiplying effect because they cannot exceed their loan to deposit ratio which is a function of the money supply, and controlled by... the central bank!

I feel like this shouldn't need to be explained to such a learned financial mind such as yourself.

But alas here we are...

I already told you I was done with this conversation. I was done when I explained myself for the upteenth time and I am definitely done now that you are mud slinging and trying to drag politics into an economic theory, which makes absolutely no sense.

If anyone else is interested here are the primary ways a central bank can expand the money supply:

Spoiler alert: allowing foreign investment isn't on it...

I have been following this interesting exchange. After looking at the link a couple of questions jump out at me. 1) Does the Central bank engage in selling government bonds on the open market to foreign investors and citizens living abroad holding foreign/local currencies? 2) and do local commercial banks engage foreign asset holders and dual citizens holding/using foreign assets in the granting of Canadian loans (which are then extracted from the local money supply by the central bank as needed)?

Have a look at the following link on the origin of the Canadian money supply (M2, M2+, M3) which includes commercial bank deposits that are made by private individuals, be they foreigners, dual citizens or indigenous locals: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/canada_money_supply.pdf
